straws, I can quite grasp those straws. Pretty easy to swap a set of tires over last time I checked
Very easy - lets see how far you get around town on a set of slicks before getting done by the RTA/EPA/Nazi's - whatever it is over east that rapes modded car lovers.
A 11 on slicks is not a street 11. Lets not get that confused.
A street 11 is shell optimax or bp ultimate fuel, street tyres ( i dont even class mickey t's as street tyres but they are DOT so they are) , full interior etc. Run it as it would run every day on the street.
low 12's for $5k is pretty bloody impressive from any car. You'd be able to make it live for sprints and short track duties... might not last 24hrs but with enough cooling what would the problem be?
Well at turn 2 it will have no power steering & will have lost all front end grip (very related), then after turn 4 it will have no brakes, then if youve kept going it will start to get hot & the lateral forces in lap 3 (cause the PS fluid has worn off the tyres now) will starve the oil & shit running round & round really fast likes oil. Then the oil pump will go cack...then the waterpump with poop itself...
Heat is a wonderful thing that completely fucks drag type engines fairly smartly...hence I will continue to be unimpressed.
I couldnt give a shit if it could do 8s...if it cant do 10 laps flat out then I give no fark
Americal racer G60 dirt trackers, DOT approved, treaded & road legal, $230 ea & will fit in the wheel arch of most larger cars on an 8" rim, nankang, gugah tugal etc 165 crossplys for the front $65 ea, stock steel wheels for the front, SH cheap alloys for the rear - total tyre & wheel package around $800, where's the big deal about having another set of rolling stock for racing?, who want's to trash their good road tyres anyway?

Well heat issues can be solved relatively cheaply, coolers aren't super dear. The oil one on the other hand I dunno apart from doing the usual trick and overfilling/making sure the oil is on the top mark, but 90% of road cars will give up the ghost in those circumstance then as well so you'd be onto dry sumping etc for any car.
Like my response to Teejay. most mods to do the times will have to be done irrespective of the car, so if you can make the hump required cheaper then you are ahead of the game in my mind.

Yup, that's why circuit engines are so much more interesting & challenging to build, no good having big peak power either (like a drag engine), needs a good even spread.
Still like my drag racing but...
Dale I think we need Uncle on here. 11's full weight, DOT tyres daily driven.
This seems to be splitting into a couple of fragments
I dont doubt that 11s on DOT tyres at full weight is doable - but what are his mods and at what cost. Considering that most of these are in commodores, which are by no means light, there is going to be a need for some decent power behind them, and despite all claims, the bill is going to be decent.
Youve got people like klyent saying "dam near 10's" for 5k , which is a plenty big call. Lets be fair and look at the retail costs too - just because I/You can get whatever at cost, free tuning etc, doesnt mean the dude who walks in off the street will.
Then theres people saying streetable 11's all day ..... but on slicks, which arnt street legal.
I havnt got anything inherently against the abilties of a modded LS1 powered car, but I do like hearing the entire truth

Yep most that are serious at motorsport would look at running a second set of tyres, especially if the car is daily driven. I know I would want to daily drive R spec track tyres, would become way too expensive to potter around town in.

Street is the important word here.
Good to see you put together a definition of a street car to suit yourself, pretty sure a car like this would piss an 11 in with a set of nittos or et streets, swap the rears and drive home. Nobody else mentioned street racing here, the facts is the facts and there are a shiteload of LS1s running 11s and still being driven to work on the monday, A/C and full interior intact.
Is it really that important? 11's on slicks or 12's on street tyres are both impressive for, IMO, is a small amount of money.
Yes, you can do that in a wrx/gtr too, but that is also impressive.
