Contemplating a Discovery - do I need my head examined?
disco3 is a good car man, youl be happy with it, and forget all the shit the guys will say about land rover breakdowns and build quality the new disco has none of those issues
When 4WD monthly tested one for their 4wd of the year test, the fuckin thing broke down so they just abandoned it and told Land Rover to get it themselves.
They are quiet because there is at least 4 tonnes of sound proofing in the damn things! (theres about 3 inches thick of it under the carpet at the front!)
As much as I am a landrover fan, unless its new, with a 5 year warranty, with a extra 5 year extension, the disco is pretty scary.
The air suspension on the disco, if it fails can cost up to 14k to replace .... thats the main fault on them at the moment... most people are replacing the air suspension with shocks once it fails as it too $$$
They are pretty good off road, seen them go where defenders fail due to the traction control, hill descent etc etc... but there is ALOT of computers on the thing to fail (just like all new 4wds now)
If you do not plan to take it off road, get a vw people mover, they are pretty sweet when done up, pimped with all the options.
<rant on>
And regarding the magazine that went out and killed a disco, read the article again, look at the pictures, they took the disco deeper in water than it was stated in the manual and killed the computer, once they did that they changed the crossing so none of the other 4wds (read toyotas / Nissans) would not fall in so deep, thus not die ... so do you think thats LR fault or the magazines ?

afaik they all did the same crossing and the pics seemed to show that, but if thats not the case do you really think the patrol or Landcruiser would have failed at the same depth?
The Prado was very tickety tickety. It'd drive me nuts after a while.
It only ticks LOUD when it's cold. After that, it's not too bad. Mind you I'm driving a Hilux TD for a bit.. no noise insulation... could be noisier and still be acceptable.
The new Landcruiser is coming soon so you might as well wait for that to come out and assess the situation then.
