as r7's weekend just proved, 40k isnt enough for beer and hookers

i reckon the disco3 is the go, but make sure that you get the longest warranty you possibly can, hopefully with some sort of agreement with the dealer that they'll give you another disco3 as a courtesy car and not a daewoo matiz...

It probably isn't as good as the germans but XC90 diesel? 7 seats standard + cheaper than germans.

I'd seriously consider a 7 seat Territory turbo, and flip it every 3 years + a toy for the weekends (clubman?) or a big trip for the family.

Oh! 200 series 'cruiser FTW though.

and crap lots more torque... i.e. much driveable in everyday situations. Getting mid 9L/100km in the Hilux with the occasional load, driven hardish and plenty of 2nd gear take offs.

Good torque for towing and fuel economy.

XC90 diesel for the Win. jeremy clarkson loves them

The current X5 and M series are 5 seat only. New X5 will have seven seat option

None of the RR are seven seat afaik.

How about a Mercedes Benz R class? R320CDi

well if it's actually going to go off-road or tow stuff regularly, go the diesel.

I totaly hooked on th ML Diesel Merc I just got tho ive not had it long enough to say what long term reliability is like.Performance for a Diesel is crazy pulling hard from idle all way thru to the limiter.Average fuel use inc towing Horse floats is well under 10L per 100ks,Highway can get to high 8s.
Much quicker than any of the Jap diesels ive tryed.
                      Worth a look.

cookie - if you have that much $$$ to spend, just buy the disco & be done with it. of course if you happen to be concerned about resale then i wouldn't be buying a 90K car in the first place.

incidentally, have you compared the pajero to the others? i've driven the pajero diesel but not the other alternatives. i dare say you'll find it's similiar to the prado, you can definately tell it's a diesel even though it drives quite nicely. and it's a 5 speed auto again. still worth checking out though.

Your spending $90k on a car and worried about fuel economy? Lets say $65k for a Turbo Territory Ghia, plus $10k spent at Nizpro plus other mods. That will give you atleast 750Nm, but economy will be about 15L/100km.
The $15k saving will buy you about 13000L of fuel, which will get you nearly 90,000kms.
A Diesel Disco uses about 10L average, so by the time you clock up 90,000kms, you would have spent $10k of fuel, so you would need to do 180k kms before your actually saving money over the Terry.

Exactly, if your buying a diesel for fuel economy dont.
I remember Fifth Gear doing a show on this exact thing a ford festiva diesel and petrol it worked out to something like you had to do 220,000 kms to start seeing a saving on fuel.

                                If you ignore resale...

Buy anything except the Disco. All mechanical and electrical reasons aside, everyone who buys one turns into a total wanker. They have replaced the late 90s Jeep Cherokee for people who think they are better than everybody else.
