i'll also subscribe to your theories.Originally posted by SturmovikYour spending $90k on a car and worried about fuel economy? Lets say $65k for a Turbo Territory Ghia, plus $10k spent at Nizpro plus other mods. That will give you atleast 750Nm, but economy will be about 15L/100km.
The $15k saving will buy you about 13000L of fuel, which will get you nearly 90,000kms.
A Diesel Disco uses about 10L average, so by the time you clock up 90,000kms, you would have spent $10k of fuel, so you would need to do 180k kms before your actually saving money over the Terry.
of course this only applies when the diesel vehicle of choice is greatly more expensive than a petrol one.
when your buying a 4WD, particularly when wanting to be towing, and the price difference between diesel & petrol is minimal, then its diesel all the way.

Tempting.Originally posted by excelboyI'd seriously consider a 7 seat Territory turbo, and flip it every 3 years + a toy for the weekends (clubman?) or a big trip for the family.
I may consider a diesel Pathy (50k) + some sort of track toy (40k).
Recent research plus responses received here dictate this is more logical than a Disco3.

Pathfinder diesels are not a bad thing. Don't move if you catch them below 1800rpm but once above that have got lotsa torque and pulling power. I'd personally avoid the manual though doesn't feel right and hopefully (I haven't driven an auto one) if they run a biggish stall convertor you won't be able to catch it below 1800rpm so torque hole problem.

This may limit you somewhat, I think it'll probably remove the car-like gerlytrux from the list.Originally posted by CookiemonsterJust had a squiz at the specs.. Territory can only tow 2300kg. I need 2500kg minimum.
In fact, it's lucky the laws have changed that say the tow-car has to weigh more than the thing being towed, or you'd be stuck with the 2800kg Discovery as the only option!
In all seriousness though, if you're towing more than twice a year (and if you're not then WTF are you doing buying one of these lardarse shitboxes), then you might want to see what the potential-purchase is like when pulling all that weight around. Some gerlytrux are much less disgusting when towing heavy stuff than others.Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
