the only way to stop being towel wearing sand niggers is the way you get ahead in western society

go to school, learn a skill that is valued, sell your skills to people overseas

one only has to look at israeli

they ain't go no oil but they have a respectable GNP per head

They're also a Western society with a Western-style "separation of church & state" gumbyment. I'm sure they cater more for people to bugger-off early on Friday arvo, there are probably more dual-kitchen units around on lower floors, that sorta stuff ... but essentially their decisions are based on the politics of Israel rather than the religion of Israel. And the country was largely started by people wot were drug-up in Western countries.
But then the most common religion doesn't call for their gumbyment to be religious *virus comment deleted*.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

What about Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and every other country in the Middle East? So far only Dubai, which is one city, has taken this approach.

          ORLY ?
Then why is every second ad on european TV a tourism ad for AbuDhabi/Quatar/Bahrain/Oman/Jordan/Egypt/etc. ?
And Dubai never had any oil to speak of to start with - it's a 'trader' state.
Whilever Saudi Arabia is under the rule of the Saudi family (which may be a while as it's pretty effing big family - ie, thousands of the blighters), it will always be far behind in any other business push apart from oil (eg. tourism). Hardline arabic religion and western tourism don't mix too good.

Yeah, it's bad enough forgetting to charge your mobile phone.

Imagine if you couldn't use your car for 8 hours because you forgot to put it on charge.

I think the design that has a motor for each wheel with fancy electronic controlling and no gearbox etc. sounds pretty promising.

Batteries need to be a fair bit better though. I can't see this happening in the next 5 years.

Someone needs to pull their finger out and design a compact, safe and affordable fusion reactor to power the forthcoming electric cars. Fill it up with a few mL of deuterium every couple of years and you're good to go!

i think a huge thing would be the second car market. For example me and the missus currently need one and a half cars, i catch the train to work and 95% of the time the second car doesnt get driven but when it does its bloody useful because we live in the suburbs, public transport on the weekend is average and i dont feel comfortable with her walking around to late and catching PT.

We would happily use an electric car for all of the day to day commute trips and keep the ICE car for weekend long trips and as the spare car when needed.

An electric car that charges off our home power supply has a 200+ round trip between charges, costs $15k for a hatch back, doesnt look like a space ship, has cheaper rego, less maintance, can do 0-100 in sub 10 seconds, can reach maybe 150km/h, has options for things like leather/sunroof/etc.. if we wanted.

They have been converting Chrades, Miras and the like to electric for years, the current car of choice is actually the Daewoo Lanos, My dad just converted and old 89 model camry wagon to full electric as it basically gets driven around town and to the station. They also have a few clubmans running around with full electric setup. Quite an interesting club site.

Currently talk of building a full electric clubman for targa next year, wasn't quite ready for this years event.

bingo, thats exactly what i would want, couple it with a potential green option for the home electricity and your set.

                            CNG conversion?
Same setup as LPG, only difference is the construction of the tank to store the CNG at higher pressure, refill setups available for refuelling at home.(takes approx 7-8hrs at mains gas pressure).

In California, the Prius and its Honda equivalent have lead to a new phenomena ... Hybrid Rage.

It seems that since the California government decided to allow single occupant Hybrids to use the HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) car-pool/commuter lanes, they've gathered the nickname "Road Boulders". It's now a regular occurrence to see a Hybrid puttering along the car-pool lanes at about 20 mph below the usual commuter speed, followed by a long train of frustrated and angry drivers. The Hybrid drivers are also getting a bad name for extremely slow, mileage enhancing take offs from traffic lights.

You forgot to mention the huge power loss, much worse than LPG.
