    Egas AU falcon wagon

All the advantages of LPG without losing bootspace (well, in a sedan you lose a bit because they moved the spare wheel in the egas models, in a wagon you wont from memory), and the power difference isnt much of a sacrifice when you consider that ~$30 = ~450k's (from what i've read - dont have personal experience to back this up, no flaming please)

also with fuel prices etc. i can only see the egas models holding their value better than the petrol ones - thats not to say it wont lose any value tho

you can always hear them when they break and they stop the engine immediately so you can't do any more damage.

The spare wheel goes in the wagon area on the factory gas Au's.

What "princess" would want to drive an eGas AU Falcon wagon? They have got not one shred of prestige what so ever.

How much are the late 90's Mazda 626s? The one just prior to the current Mazda 6?
They had a huge hatchback boot and should be relatively (2L) economical. Not sure about the repairs/spares costs.

The Commodore is going to be the best long distance cruiser of the lot. And remarkably economical cruising at 100-110km/h.

I seem to remember that Nissan released a povo spec Maxima with a MANUAL transmission in the late 90's. Spec J? something to look out for as they would not be popular on the secondhand market.

Value for money The avalons start out dearer than the camry with slightly better trim levels and comforts and are cheaper secondhand.

When you look at an avalon and a camry priced the same secondhand you get a much better buy with the avalon. It'll be newer with higher trim levels.

I've sat in both and the trim didn't seem much different? Maybe it was just because I went to sleep before I'd had a good look around.

Jase - you can pick up mid-90s Maximas with all the fruit for almost free these days. My sister's one (family hand me down) has done 200,000kms and only thing we've had to replace is a couple of driveshafts.

No idea on pricing, but I think the spares were expensive, just don't have any recollection of costs! I drove one to Broken Hill with three adults and it was fine, they just look as boring as hell! It's probably a good choice, but may be hard to find in manual with all the mod cons.

                  Thanks for everyones suggestions.

I managed to score a 2000 model Mitsubishi Verada Ei 3.5L V6 with 7mths Rego in excellent condition. Its a 2nd owner and the previous owner seems to have really taken care of it and it has all the service history and the last service was done only 169km ago.

It has not been washed, polished or detailed yet, but it still looks to be in excellent condition..

I pick it up on Saturday...

The "princess" will be pleased I am sure... :p

                        Well, finally have it..

Caught the 7am flight to Coolangatta on Saturday morning and flew up to the Gold Coast to collect the Verada..

Caught up with and hand Brunch with Q & QT and chewed the fat over cars and he was still pushing me to buy the 330ci.. Hmm, $8,000 would have maybe paid for the wheels..

Left the Gold Coast about 1pm and started the drive back to Sydney. having NOT had a car for the last 5 weeks, I was looking forward to actually driving, - just not the 12hr trip that lay ahead...

It was pissing down for most of the trip home and I quicky discovered that the wiper blades were fubar so a quick stop at the servo saw that taken care off.

The more I drove the Verada the more I liked it, it is sooo comfortable and the econony - OMG !! - the whole trip ended with the trip computer reading 8.4L/100km, however it was as low as the mid sevens at the bottom of the hills to the west of Ballina. It slowly started creeping up to hover around 8.1/8.2 for the rest of the trip and it was only when I hit the last 30 mins for suburban roads and traffic lights etc that it crept up to 8.4L.. Pretty bloody good considering I had the Air Con on the WHOLE time.

At 100km/h it lazily spins over at 2,000rpm - and it's uber smooth.
The only downsides were that the front tyres that are on it are shit in the wet and it regulary was aqua-planning which was not fun. So, New tyres are on the list.. The other issue was the headlights - for the new "parabolic" lights that they raved about, they were pretty average on Low beam.. High beam was excellent, so new globes went in today..

The factory 8 speaker sound system is excellent, and the climate control is perfect - just set and forget.

Overall, Great car, I'm going to hate having to give it to Jade - but at least I will get my Cressida back - WOOT !!!

they really are a good car, better then the equivalent commodores and falcons by a mile.

if you don't need the rwd platform, magnas are the go for sure.

the 3.5L has oddles of torque from idle up they are great, the previous 3.0L models are just as good, less torque, but more revs.

i also love the fact the tranny has an external screw on filter, makes tranny services so easy and hassle free.
