After much speculation and with great anticipation, it is confirmed that the Škoda automotive brand is returning to Australia and will commence selling cars in the Australian Market in the latter part of 2007.

The initial products chosen to lead the brands re-entry to the Australian market are the Octavia (in both sedan and wagon) and Roomster models.
The Head of Škoda in Australia will be Matthew Wiesner, currently holding the position of General Manager, Press and Public Relations at Volkswagen Group Australia.
Škoda the brand has not had a presence in the Australian market since approximately 1983. Since that time much has changed for the brand globally. In 1991 Volkswagen AG bought 30% of the shares of the newly established joint-venture company. Later, Volkswagen AG increased its share to 70% and in 2000, bought the remaining shares to assume 100% ownership.
The history of the brand is long. The current road to success began with building bicycles through to motorbikes and then motor cars of which manufacturing commenced as early as 1905, making Škoda one of the oldest established automotive brands in the world today.
Now Škoda is selling cars in over 90 countries, with production plants in 7 countries around the world employing more than 27,000 people. In 2006 Škoda sold 549,667 vehicles which was an increase of over 11% over the previous year, a sales record for the brand. For the first time, the Octavia was the highest selling model worldwide at 270,274, outselling the Fabia with 243,982. This was a significant sales development as it displays the growing attraction of the brand in Western markets resulting with Germany being the strongest market globally with 118,527 sales in 2006.
