Bugger dude, I though you'd be pushing shit up hill to get it done, but had my fingers crossed anyway.
Ah well, at least you've got the weekend to finish off the little details & bed it in with a little less stress.
To save people reviewing, what you are looking at is Brian Crower 1mm oversize valve in/out, Brian Crower hi speed valvetrain, ARP main/rod + HSK (head stud kit), ported head/zorst mani/runners/throttle body.
As you can see the craftsmanship is "par excellence" as Alan Jones would say!
He might be a professional engine builder but I can see there's a fair amount of art in there too.
The ported head is absolutely beautiful, like sculpture almost it's that pretty.
Shame I don't have before photos of the throttle body but it's completely different now that the sub-throttle butterfly has been removed/welded up, ported, throttle spindle aero'd, and all polished.
I've thrown in some pics of the valvetrain and ARP stuff for interest.
There are also shots of the port matching on the in/out mani's.
A HUGE thank you must go to TK for all this - he's been fantastic to deal with the whole time, suffered my incessant stoopid questions and never given me any attitude whatsoever. Pleasure dealing with you Tone! If I ever get to the next level I will gladly be popping down with a stroker kit for your installation.
Hitting the Friday mark was always going to be pushing it so will be next week sometime now with semi-final figures. Phatter cams are weeks off for sure so the final-final figures will be much later.
Ta,
Gaven
PS- I have a shoot load of other pics so if people want to see different stuff just yell. No, I will not be putting up pictures of my wife naked - I know how you people think now I've been here long enough!
Note of interest - found some figures on a 2jzgte head ported by M2 race systems - 285cfm at .500" lift on the intakes, 175cfm at .500" on the exhausts.
Depends on too many factors to be able to give anything other than a guesstimate.
On an NA engine thats flow limited by the head (ie the head cannot flow as much as the motor is capable of consuming) the gains are close to proportional ie 20% more flow = 20% more power, engines that this applies to are often old school V8's.
Turbo engines are much more complitated, things like pumping losses & spool time make it impossible to really predict - who can tell how much power a reduction in pumping losses will give, it's really a try it & see thing - hence this thread!
Believe me mate, I'm trying - up till/past midnight most nights!
At this stage car is slated for dyno head re-tune Monday arvie so *should* only be a few days now. Car still hasn't reached start up stage so that is the real risk.
Will just be grateful to have a real car back instead of this daily POS Dunnydoor.
OK, car started, got run in with some 300k's on the clock to run in the fresh internals, then down to the dyno.
Got stuck with a few probbys on the rOllOrz, sorted them out only to suffer a split wastegate hose at the last minute which torpedoed remaining runs as time had run out (was 5pm by this stage).
Will have to wait at least a week now as I'm on holis interstate from tomorrow.
SuperCrown and I will do some road tuning first then back to the dyno for WOT runs/measurement eg. car currently has some TPS transition issues with dumping fuel etc. so best tune that shit out as that could take a while.
Guesstimate? Dyno will be maybe 2 weeks from now.
Upside? With the w/g leak we now know the car can hit 31psi
It all settled down and was ready to start power runs-then on the first ramp it came on boost and got to 20psi-it was set to 15.
The EBC was checked, and then just bypassed so it would just run spring pressure. Result-as soon as it was loaded up-31psi (boost came on reeeeaal quick too).
We then shut it down and got compressed air to check the external gate was working. Whadaya know, pump comp air into the actuator line and you could hear a loud hissing noise from the gate-inspection with a torch showed a 30mm long split in the actuator line right near the gate.
Time-4:55pm. Fuck. Game over.
This will actually give Reaper and I a chance to get the throttle-pump settings right, along with all the cruise mapping, with some on-road tuning so that next time in the cell it will only need to to be tied down and hoofed.
Tell you what though-I was on engine bay monitoring duty during the session, and it sounded brilliant.
Adjustable cam gears for 1FZ-FE now ready for sale - 10 degrees advance/10 degrees retard. Suitable for all variants of 1FZ-FE.
(adjustable scissor gear for changing separation angle between the intake and exhaust cams coming soon)
Car is now in very good health. Issues sorted. No longer at risk of burning in a fiery, horrible death as squirters sealed.
Resident maniac SuperCrown & I went out today to tune 'er up using his wideband inc. real time AFR readout module (also known as Alex).
Car is running abso-fucken-lutely peachy, gave it some wellington on the way home and this bitch fucken boots. Bloody fucking great! About fucking time. Can you tell I'm happy? I swear with tears of joy welling up inside of me. I look forward to stomping some cunts in this unit. Yes, I have an ego problem, let's move on.
Anyhoo, hopefully off to the dyno tomorrow arvie - boss is off at a corporate indoctrination session - handy.
Unfortunately the dyno guy/tuna I use popped out a 3rd testicle the other day (hernia) so he may not be on deck but we'll see.
Once again - a HUGE thank you to Seano for helping me dial this prickos in today. The man's a legend in South Ozzie and he's been a fantastic resource to hassle constantly. How many fucking cops did we see today?! Anyhoo, tell me what you drink ya basket or you're getting slabs of West End fuck ya! Shall I get you Lemon & Lime UDL's like Mick? :O
