Problem is that internationally FA is a dead end, you need F3000 etc in europe to do F1....mind you indy etc is good for a wage.
I don't care a damn for your loyalty when you think I am right; when I really want it most is when you think I am wrong.

FA may be a dead end, but F3000 is dead.

Great they are preserving the old cars, but to compare it to the 2008 F3 grid which will have something like 6 current model cars from the British and Euro Championships, plus international drivers, plus the CAMS Gold Star, plus being a recognised international formula..... Formula Robertson hasn't a prayer.

Tim Macrow (current F3 Champ) recently went and tested Formula Atlantic in the US..... spanked the other guys by 1sec the first day, didn't do the second day, and they still couldn't touch his time. I hope he finds the funding and sponsors to go kick some serious arse.
Yes, Formula-Robertson will never be the pinacle of Australian open-wheelers, but they are still extremely fast, the fields are growing and they are one of the cheapest open-wheeler options out there at the moment. It is the type of formula that Edo was originally asking about at the start of the thread.

Sssshhh, it's a great place for me to offload OHOS's laying around the workshop.:rotflol:

Seriously, I'm glad to see a new category without a trace of ego in it! Naming it after yourself is bad enough but why would you throw a stupid comment about "outgridding F3" in there.

          Tosser.

For the record, at last count there are 9 2007 models in country or on the way. Someone had a big spend up at Macau.

So we can expect bigger fields than the typical 12 to 14 Formula 3 cars for 2008. It would be good to see.

As long as they can sort out National Class, then yeah.

Agreed on naming it after yourself.... fair enough if he'd designed a new spec-chassis for the series, but he's done diddly.

Grab a late model openwheeler and spank em Edo.

From memory the new F3 cars are coming from

HiTech, Carlin, DoubleR and one of the Euro teams - so they aren't spanker chassis either.

They are actually running about 8 cars out of their own pockets in order to get the series up and running. Not bad for a truck driver and his son.

They wanted to run cheap lower revving 2L VW Golfs as part of AF2 instead of the high revving 1.6L Golfs. The same kind of thing was approved for Supersports, but CAMS and AF2 knocked it on the head. That is why they went the AMRS route.

8 old dunger cars though. Probably bought on the cheap. Leasing costs will cover their running expenses. Like I said, good on him for gettnig the older cars out there, but to cmopare it to the F3 Championship is grasping at straws......

Yes they are older cars, but none were leased out this year, although that may change for 2008. Basically they have been giving drives out for free and many of these drivers have now gone out and purchased older F3 Dallaras. They will run these cars with the existing F3 motors but with a smaller restrictor, until the engines need rebuilding and then they will replace the motors with a dirt cheap 2L Golf motors.

What other wings & slicks categories are there to compare Formula-R to apart from Formula 3? There is no way Formula-R will ever be as fast or professional as Formula-3, but most of the cars are older repowered or restricted Formula 3's, so I can understand how the comparison occurs. If Formula-R can attract new drivers into open wheelers and away from sedans and cartoon cars, I reckon it can only be a good thing.

Im with Xb...I will try to keep an eye on the category...Id be a tad nervous about buying a car for a very young category that would otherwise be an orphan.

Id love to race an open wheeler though. I see no point in trying to convert something that was supposed to drive to the shops & back into a race car when you can buy & run something cheaper that was designed to be a race car from day 1.

VW relaunched their bid to European Formula 3 this year.

theres a couple of F398 and F301 Dallaras on my105 without engines, looms and data loggers. might be worth a look?
