    Toyota Quality?

Our work got a brand new Diesel Hilux today. One of the guys at work goes to fill it up for the first time, opens the filler panel, sees a 'unleaded fuel only' sticker and fills it with such fuel. About 20km later it coughs and splutters and dies.

    :knock:

Now this guy doesnt really know much about cars, so he was only doing what it said. Granted anyone with some sort of car experience would have noticed the way it drove and sounded, and the hood scoop on the bonnet. But probably not your average person?

    Who's at fault?

Manufacturers fault. Joe Average isn't and shouldn't be expected to know what sort of fuel their car uses by the way it sounds. Especially considering it wasn't his.

Well in theory diesel doesn't have any lead in it, rite? :D

Had a similar case thru work that was paid out by the manufacturer..

If the decal is a factory one and there is no evidence of tampering etc... Then you would have a very good case to make them cover the cost of repairs/replacement

Take it back to Toyota and get them to repair it.

Are there any Diesel badges/stickers on the new Luxii, apart from the filler?

The other thing, aren't the diesel and unleaded filler nozzles different sizes?

AFAIK a unleaded nozzle will fit in a Diesel filler, but not vice versa.

Patricks Autocare.. they do the local work on the vehicles (badges, radio fitment, etc). But it'd be paid by Toyota.

S_E, correct. Diesel nozzles are larger.

patricks do the work? toyota dont bother to fit components like that from factory? ive worked for a couple of dealerships and if anything like that wasnt fitted when it left the manufacturer PD usually had to fit them.

You could even go so far to say the dealer missed it during PD and its their fault too, you are surposed to do checks of the cap and door filler when doing the final inspection, but i guess someone could have missed the sticker.

The last check is the PDI dept but every manufacturers will have issues picked up by the PDI people... ranging from no oil in the engine to panels not straight etc. Mind you some PDI centres are better than others so you'll get ones that fix things properly (or use their initiative) and there are those that just don't care as much.

Dealerships have their own departments. Ive never worked for one that didnt.

I'd be sending the letter to cityrail. Clearly at fault here.
