Then even though the TE50 may be a brilliant AU i dont think people will pay 4-5x what the xr8s will be worth.

Umm thats my long winded way of saying i actually have a soft spot for AU but running + petrol + insurance is the smallest "cost" you get from owning them IMO.
If you look at the performance options in the AU range they still hold value, a good condition XR8 will still set you back 20k, you can find them down into the low teens, but there will be a few things wrong with it. You can buy S3 t vehicles starting from the low 20's and you get a whole host of extras above an xr8 that would cost you plenty more to modify yourself. Brakes, engine, suspension, leather package, gearbox and wheels will set you back a fair bit of coin to upgrade. Ive looked at XR8's too because they are getting rather cheap, but its been difficult to find a S2 in manual form, manual utes seem to be more common

Think you are kidding yourself if you think that the series 3 vehicles are going to suddenly drop 10-15k because there are more BA XR8's on the road. They are few and far between when you look for them forsale, s3 vehicles are hard to find and manual versions even more so (so hard, that they only had single build figures in some models). Because of the equipment package and because of the low build numbers, they are still fairly stagnant. Have to remember they were under 60k to purchase new 5 years ago, the biggest depreciation was suffered within the first year or so and they havent dropped a whole lot since.

Next door neighbour picked up his S2 "classique" for $5400 at a fowles auction, its basically a povo pack with pinstripes mag wheels and spoiler. Was a repossessed vehicle from a loan default, had 96,000km on the clock, a few others around the same sort of spec sold for 5-7k at the same auction. Private sale is much higher though, but there are some bargains out there

I've always had a spot for the TE and TS? 50's.
Even the AU XR8's for that matter.

but if its a repo, the finance company will take close to whats owing on it. if they only owed $2k when they repossed it, thats all the reserve would b.

buy the T3, they will not depreciate as badly as the BA because of the smallish numbers that were built.

ironhorse: the BA might have had 10kws more but they were a fair amout heavier. the T3's were faster standard than the BA's

That is one of the ugliest cars I've seen in a while, and if I saw it at a set of lights I would almost certainly point and laugh.

whatever floats your boat though, you have to drive it & live with it... not us!

yeah fair call .But that's not the point i was making. The T3 was a marquee car ,the owners shell out to have the best /most powerful and all that. Bit rough when less than 6 months later even the std XR8 had more power & the equivilent fpv unit 40kw more.HSV and Holden also has burned many an buyer doing the same thing.

It's a subjective thing. Some blokes like fat chicks. Whatever does it for you.

Having said that if i was a Ford man i'd go BA / BF XR8 or XR6T over any AU no matter how well it was dressed up. You can't polish a turd...
The older i get, the better i was...

                            No im not joking.

                            here

SII's and especially SIII's still have quite a lot of money on them, you can get older S1 cheaper like i said, but given its nearly a 10 year old car and probably isnt in great condition anymore, they still bring low teens. Everyone puts shit on AU's and the povo and exec packs suffered huge hits after being run out for fleet buyers, but stuff outside that still carries a good price tag.

Plenty of people seem to be plugging the XR8 but i wonder how many of you have driven them. Ive got one lined up on wednesday morning, 2003 model, the more i read the more i have my doubts. Have to see if i can organise a mk2.

Not spending 40k on a newer sedan, so GT is out.

you seem like you've negotiated successfully with yourself, why are you asking us??

for me, i couldnt bring myself to own an AU anything, let alone a big wanker one.. it'd just feel like i was in a taxi home from the pub every time i was in it. the interior is shit, the exterior looks good for an AU, but horrible for a car. the motor might have a heap of shit done to it, but it needs it because fundamentally its a shitheap. i'd much rather have a ls1 commo because fundamentally its much much easier to make power and they way way better. but whatever floats your boat - it just wont be the cheapest, fastest or best thing you could have bought.. but you sound like you'll like it.
EMS Cold Start - starts third time, every time.
