Pics of Sainty & other drag cars

From another forum, thought the engineering gone into them would be of interest.

Interesting the way they have done the three-valve heads, looks pretty strong.

I reckon a 2J head with some porting would flow more than those

    nice injected turbo setup.

the injected alterd is mark from motor sport connections car, makes around 1500hp from what he was saying the other week

the sainty B3V motors are great when run in Alky form, a mate had one in his drag boat, only ever burnt pistons, used to run 190mph on water till the bottom of the boat borke and sent him flying accross the top of the water

The finish on the valves is pretty impressive.. Actually everything is impressive. Right down to the Bill Sherwood Series 2 signature series valve covers.

fwiw, 3 valve has some advantages in top fuel. With 4, despite better flow, the area between teh two exhaust valves/seats gets hotter than hell (as if nitro that was still burning when it left the exhaust pipes isn't bad enough) and leads to destruction of engine.

A few people have fucked around with 4 valve heads and pretty much all say that 3v is better.

                  p.s. top pics, thanks bill.

sainty used 4 valve heads for a while, they were banned so went to 3 valve heads, they put a lot of development into the 4 valve heads but they were twice the size and a lot more fragile

Yeah true jmac. One of the groups who fucked around with 4 valves was Sainty speedworks- you may have heard of them :D

See Bill, 2 or 3 valves IS better than 4.

PS Did you know they run up to 15:1 comp plus 50 plus psi of boost on methanol? 3000 to 3500 hp from 8 or 9 litres.

                        edit beaten by Dale...

The biggest advantage of their head layout is that you can service a set of heads to drop onto the engine and don't even have to do valve clearances between rounds on the ca. With drag racing time is very tight between rounds, so to be able to whacka set of heads on that have been serviced while the car is in the staging lanes is a huge benefit. Not for the poor crew servicing the heads though who don't even get to watch the car run...

also the lack of belts/chains to drive the heads is a good thing?

makes sense for ease of head replacement - one less thing to line up and adjust after bolting the head on.

Why is it not one exhaust and two inlets then?

                              They are.
You need two inlets for best flow - though it's less of a factor with boost and especially lots of it - and the exhaust is rarely a limiting factor.
                              Um, unless it's a 2JZGTE.
