Well they do. It's part of their job. They will also have to deal with rape victims, assault victims, psychopaths, self harm, riots, suicides, etc.

Someone also has to do autopsies, counsel victims, take photos of automotive and other fatalities, flick the switch for capital punishment, euthenaise (sp) people etc.

Shit happens, life happens, we are mortal.

But it would have to get to most people over time. Not exactly a positive work environment.
For sure.. I think knowing they might have caused the incident would make it worse, and it happened right in front of their eyes (normally cops go to situations like this after they have occured, not during). Nasty stuff either way.

Spot on - there is a sad undercurrent of pro-southern suburbs bias that seems to dwell on pf.

I feel sorry for the family of this bloke, but also what sort of gullible fool lets his mate ride a new bike with no helmet etc.
Marvellous things so quickly get mundane

          Assuming he "let" him.

and if he did give him permission to ride it without a helmet, I wonder if there would be any (unfair IMHO) legal ramifications?

nah it's more of an inner-city bias really. much like most large cities.

but yes i do agree than there are a certain amount of dickheads everywhere, in rich & poor areas. much like every classroom in every school had a class clown.

You know what you're signing up for as a cop. They saw a guy stack it, and he was probably a gory mess. That's not much fun, granted, but surely if you're going to have trouble coping with that, you're in the wrong job.
I wont flame you as you may not understand anything about Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. I have been a Cop for over 21yrs. I have attended some horrific accidents/killings/suicides imaginable. I consider myself fairly immune to any emotion involved. That said, I still have vivid memories of everyone of them.

I saw a 6yr old girl cut in half in a vehicle accident on Christmas day some time back. She had gone through the front windscreen of her grandparents car that had been involved in a head-on. I then had to go and tell the parents that their daughter wasn't coming home from Grandma's. I then spent Christmas dinner with my own daughter who was about that age. Now, go ahead, tell me I wasnt supposed to feel anything.

PTSS sneaks up on you and goes whack. Cops are human Slip. The expectation that you put on them that they need to harden the fuck up only adds to the pressure.

Well said. This is (one of) the major reason why i could never be a cop. Realisitically i don't think i could handle that side of the job.

                    geez get teary town.

there are dickheads in every suburb, just more in the northern suburbs thats all. even with dickheads in every suburb, this accident still happened in modbury (up north). ive lived up there before (salisbury) for about a year, and its a shit hole. i dont mean any offence to anyone that lives up there, but it can get pretty ghetto up there. and modbury isnt much better either. i remember reading a news paper article about a year ago where there was a footy game in salisbury lizbef area between local teams and one of the guys on the team went to his car and grabbed a knife and chased one of the players on the opposite team, sounds classy to me.

Totally agree with you DCR. Wasn't giving a 'harden the fuck up', and very well aware of the awful shit you guys have to deal with. Was just saying that if someone is going to have trouble dealing with a motorcycle accident (as stated in original article), maybe they are in the wrong job. What I was saying is no need for someone to harden up, but if it gets to you, then get out.
