For North vs South in Adelaide it tends to work like this:
All of SA is a shithole, but thankfully there are SOME good area's in both the north and the south.
I would still say the south is marginally better simply because the north was cheaper to build on for a long time and was originally large flat dust plains, the south was all vineyards and beach front that wasn't developed until later on.
But I can tell you people in the south are total tight arses and I'd never run a business down here. The east and west realise stuff costs money and the northen guys can be convinced with a distracting dance and a lighter but southerners are tighter then a fish arse.
I can tell you there is a HUGE difference moving from Aberfoyle Park to morphett vale (both South, SA)
This area is SHIT.. Can't wait for the new house to be built in McClaren vale so I can get out of here!

yes and this is suprising, how?
btw did you end up going with hickinbothams with the house?

yeah it was surprising.. I was expecting shit but not this shit!
I even have to drive back to Aberfoyle Park woolies to get decent food becaus the fruit/veg and meat is so bad I wouldn't feed it to my dog.
Yeah did end up going with Hickinbotham in the end, looked at stacks of others but the clincher was when we were driving around near my block of land and found a bloke building a similar house design, they still hadn't put up the whitewall so me and my carpenter father in law had a look around with the owners permission. Rock solid workmanship on the frames, fitment and brickwork.
We're building this: http://www.hickinbotham.com.au/Tradi...versailles.htm
with 9 foot ceilings and a crap load of other options.
plan looks quite good (by that i mean that any issues i'd raise would be nit-picking).
variations of that type of design have been around for over 10 years no doubt, but that can be good thing in a lot of ways.
carport or garage?
well.. way OT but I can't resist an opportunity to gush about the shit I'm doing...
Yeah, it's a pretty traditional design.
Were fitting a fully enclosed 2 car garage with rollerdoor out the back so I can take cars out to the back (where I'll build a nice decent shed later on)
Kitchen bench is being slightly modified and we're fitting french folding doors to the rumpus room and from the formal dining to the kitchen.
Only other change is to move the sliding door from the east wall of the rumpus room to the north middle side. That way it can double as a theatre room .

yes, biasing your windows/asd's to face north is always a good idea, provided your retaining the eaves of course.
so you're squaring off the rumpus/theatre i'd assume?
you shouldn't have any major dramas with hicky's, mainly considering your buying a house that's pretty much from their brouchure book. i wouldn't recommended them for anything custom.
