/me waits for some albury/wodonga local to chime in with how great the jones brothers are and how they'd be 15 times champions if it wasn't for 519 individual cases of bad luck/victimisation.

As if on cue.
I note that so much of the cost escalation that effectively killed auscar as a viable class was spearheaded by the jone's boys and their relationship with bob jane.
Don't worry, thats just the self-preservation instinct, in my experience you can safely ignore it.
Sorry - the tumbleweeds must have been too loud when that press release came out.

IMHO, Jim> Brock. Who else at his age is still on the pace?

Auscar...woah...awesome. Nascar, cause that was hugely competitve in Aust. Production car racing before it was competitive & 2 litres when he had the only good equipment (and totld his teammate he had to finish second.
Snot, to be fair, Brocky has slowed down a lot since his death.

Death aside, in his final years of touring cars he wasn't really on the pace. Contrast that with Jim, who was still winning Carrera Cup, and co-driving with his son in the Main Game.

whats funny about this is the story behind him quitting*..
"apparently" he and i think murphy? (ill double check tonight) we're both doing testing at winton. jones reeled off a heap of laps, with fresh tyres etc. he got out and murph got in, and on his first 'observation' lap beat him by nearly 2 seconds
brad wasnt happy about that, and was talking about leaving that day
*i was told this last week by a friend in the know, ill double check the accuracy of my story tonight

well at least he has stayed true to his word.
The interview on ch10 went something along the lines of this.
We need to find out whats costing us that 1/2 a second a stopping our team from being competitive. If thats brad jones being in the drivers seat then brad jones will have to get out of that seat.
Basically he was being a good team boss and treating himself as he would any other driver.

Shame he didn't realise this long ago! :D

He's a good driver for sure, not disagreeing with you. But cutting happy laps of the ring isn't the same as racing.

Sorry, am late to this thread. I have been protesting against whitey oppressors all morning with my people. I shall serenade this thread with my didge until nash comes in and puts it all into perspective.
I'm not faulting his career. On the contrary - it was spectacular. I'm talking about what he is doing now. Find me someone his age that is still racing at a top level.
