Eleventythird 'what car should I get'..

Looking at upgrading the Silver 05WRX hatch (with only 22k on the clock - make me an offer). Reckon its worth around 35 grand so that's the ballpark I'll be playing with.

Options Im looking at include (in order of current thinking):

    Liberty 3.0R
    Liberty GT
Audi A6 4.2 quattro (for around ~45k - luxo bargey goodness)
SS/XR6t/ClubbieR8/FPV GT (if the chest beating side of me wins out)
Outside chance - Maxima (I dont really dig fwd cars but the Maxima I drove went really well for what they are)

Missus needs to be able drive it comfortably. Doesnt need to be a big car, just a bit bigger than the WRX. Will be doing mainly around town duties with the occasional 600km rounds trip. Would prefer it to be reasonably efficient..

Won't be doing any track days - thats what the blade is for.

Am leaning towards a Liberty 3.0RB at the moment. Maybe even the wagon. Nice looking car (both sedan and wagon), well appointed, quick enough for what I want I reckon. I also think the wagon looks good and the extra hieght in the boot space of the WRX has come in handy on plenty of occasions. I haven't driven one back to back with the GT but I suspect it would be the better driver of the two.

So - let the discussions begin!

Dad's got an 05 Liberty 6 cyl. Auto is shit, takes ages to take off, like a delay in putting foot down and car taking off. Other than that goes ok once moving, nice options and comfortable to drive.

Clock stopped working the other day and front brakes got replaced when it had less than 5000kms due to grinding noise (warranty). Thats the only probs since new.

PS. Can I have a go on your bike?:D

          Left field.

Passat 3.2L 4Motion Wagon.... then upgrade chip for 200kw/340Nm.

or if you had enough cash , one of these...

Edo - blow me Or better yet, sell me your car for 35 grand.
The 3.0RB should do 0-100 in 7.0 seconds. I dont really drive the WRX any harder than that I dont reckon and it should be more responsive in gear. I've doubt I've ever done a launch with more than 3000 revs.

Blackbart - which model has your Dad got? And no you cant have a go on my blade. There's only two blokes I've ever let ride my bikes and you're not one of them :D

Roger Cordia I was looking at something along the lines of this I guess if I went down the R8 line (essentially its the exhaust note and ballsy looks that would get that choice over the line):

40k on the clock. Leather interior. Asking 37 grand.

rj - remind me why would I swap a WRX for one of those?

Go the v8! you might get a bit of stick from mates who are into turbo's but theres something fun about hurling a big sedan through roads hearing the v8 roar it's arse off.

GT is actually a pretty nice ride. Was considering swapping the WRX for one. Has a nice exhaust note as well when you thrash it.

vicko maybe another option might be a VZ SS with leather and all the fruit, leaving change for bumping it up to 340kw or so. though mind you I suspect it'll still feel like a slug compared to a bike

I'm in the same position and looking at similar cars. I've not decided yet but there seems to be pretty big downsides to all of them so far.

Might need to revise your estimate of what your WRX wagon is worth I reckon - I sold my MY05 sedan with similar k's 15 months ago for $31k and it took 3 months. There is very little chance you'll get over 30 for it. $35k would be reasonable for a very low km MY06/MY07. They can be had for $39990 driveaway brand new.

To be honest Im not that fussed on the power sejanus for exactly that reason. Besides the difference between 290 and 340kw wouldnt be that great I wouldnt imagine in the grand scheme of things. Anything with 4 wheels feels slow - and the missus has to be comfortable driving it with the little one in the back anyway. My reasoning is that the R8 is at least not your run of the mill SS. No offence to SS owners, but if I can get an R8 with leather etc for the same price as a slightly newer SS.. its a no brainer to me.

                            Suby 3.0 or Audi A6

Bah @ driving a commodore when you could have a 4.2 Audi Quattro. Vince and malcolm are loving their 3.0RB's.

Commodore looks great, granted, but the feel while driving is nowhere near the Suby.

Maxima...FWD, it'll keep you out of trouble, nice car, but no balls about it in the looks department.

Suby + Audi - nice to see when you go into the garage, nice to drive, good interior, do everything you want well.

Jizz - maybe, I was in the subaru lot this arvo and they had a WRX hatch *exactly* the same as mine only with 70thou on the clock as opposed to 20. And were asking 34 grand. Mine seriously feels like its just left the showroom. Not a sqeak or rattle anywhere. When I was asking about the Liberty I mentioned that I was surprised at the price of the WRX and he seemed fairly confident they'd get the 34k.. Who knows. But for arguments sake 30-35k. Whatever
