I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

There's some awesome machinery in the background of the shots too - every day a different classic or racing car.
Gotta give these Finns some respect, they love their historics and rally cars!

Given the size and weight of the MA70 I'm surprised they had any success with it at all!

                  Spotted that last night

we did some diggun, and are pretty certain its the car juha drove in 1990, in rally aus, and won the event in, thus the plates..

im guessing he like carlos sainz would get personalised plates when he competed here

Why does that Celica have a live rear axle? That generation Celica was the first to offer IRS in the more up-spec models.

Probably something to do with homologation; the IRS versions didn't arrive until 83/84 from memory, perhaps that was too late to fit in with their plans?

At a guess, I'd say more to do with robustness than anything else. Trying to do something like the East African Safari would mean reliability would come first.

Don't really know, though. Wouldn't be surprised to find out that both IRS and live axle were homologated, and used in different shells at different events. There was some whacky shit in Group B days.

Ah, nice find Norbie! I still have a VHS tape somewhere with these things in Rally NZ in their time - on the bitumen, they would lift the inside wheel almost a foot off the ground under full power! Great sight to see Kankkunen driving the things. I note he is in one of the series of pictures (number 48) and that it is one of the cars he piloted.

I must remember to visit that shop when in Finland next to see what they are up to!
