well... if everyone put money in the meters all the time when they parked.. the gov would lose out on a hell of a lot of income....

same with speeding... don't speed, reuce the income, becomes not viable to operate the speed enforcement brigade...

but.. people are stupid and still get parking fines and speeding fines, and all for what??

        morons..

That's not the point.. the point is just increasing and increasing the limits, reducing the leniency until pretty much everybody gets fined or contributes anyhow. I don't give a shit whether there are no car parks, I just catch p/t or park further out and walk. But parking fines, speeding fines, taxes for practically breathing - it's becoming a joke in this country. If there isn't enough money, governments should increase damn taxes. Instead they make a farce about tax cuts, when in the other segments people end up paying in one way or another.

I haven't got a speeding fine or parking fine for 3+ years, but still, I don't like the idea that no matter what you are doing you have to be thinking about that sort of rubbish - and more important day to day matters. Nor does it really dispose me when I do go down to Melbourne and have to constantly worry about that crap, when the one thing I like about places such as QLD is that you don't.

I had a meeting in the city today, put money in the meter etc.. Came back to my car to find a ticket. Realised that I pressed the wrong parking bay number on the meter when I paid. So I saved some other cunt a fine whilst picking one up for myself.

Clearly the 3km/h tolerance in VIC was implemented solely to save lives and nothing to do with increasing revenue

Seriously, I can't believe that you could possibly believe that! If less people speed, they will just add more and more cameras, drop the tolerance, hide cameras at the bottoms of hills etc to ensure they achieve revenue targets.

it's hard to drop the tolerance to less than 3km

i don't believe people are smart enough to actually follow the rules...

but it would deprice the gov of a lot of income...

edit: you think they will get away with adding more cameras if less people speed?

Of course they would. Victorians voted the speed camera nazi into government.

I'd say an electronic limiter like the ones used on F1 would sell well. Push a button for 40 in increments of 10km/h up to 110 and then automatically brakes for you to hold the speed down hill.

I'd like to see what the Victorian govt would say if someone did make a product like that.

where have you been all this time??? :rotflol:

it's well known that in NSW even that tighter restrictions, petrol costs, successful advertising and whatever have lower the amount of fines collected

so they are quite willing to put up more cameras to try to recover that revenue (cameras are a decent investment - they are capable of collecting millions for that once off small install cost)

there's a new camera outside just outside of the corner of my place

my place has been family owned for that last 20+ years, we full well know what this stretch is like... it's certainly not a 'hotspot' of any description

                            so why put one there?

                              fair enough :D

i dunno.. i used to see just as many non-asians that were shitful drivers... both the agressive and the so non-aggressive that they stop in middle of roundabouts!

umm.... in japan, enjoying the non-aggressive drivers, the 20-30km tolerance on cameras and patrol cars (edit, maybe thats just hokkaido tho?), and the 11ty billion traffic lights you get with an americanised urban grid

i understand your point tho... i think the attitude of aussie drivers will make any kind of enforcement not work...
ie, if the tolerance is 3km/hr, people will drive at 3km over.
if tolerance is 15km/hr, people will drive at 15km over.. and then complain if they get caught at 16km/hr over, cos they weren't much above the tolerance
i haven't had a speeding fine or been pulled over here in 2 years..
i wonder how i will do in aus for 4 weeks :rotflol: (sounds like if i keep the same habits.. 20 fines a day?)

i reckon they ned a huge fleet of mini-cars with flashing lights.. so ppl know not to do stupid shit when there is a cop around... or would that not work either?

yeah i know - it was a facetious question

i admit i drive very very quick - not as fast as TJ mind you but 50 zones everywhere is just ridiculous esp. in the "Hills" type districts in syd. where I feel you need to build up a head of steam to get over those crests.

i haven't had a fine in ages and the bottom line is just drive smart - know where the cameras are, don't tempt fate in unknown areas or during blitz operations

i drive thru many swede areas like granville, auburn, lidcombe etc.

hasn't affect the swedes there - still heaps of WRXs going full out in 50 zones

that's one of the reasons I dislike boxer fours...
