Matt, he is willing to pay a bit more to go to the 2.5L Liberty. No way would he buy the 2.0L. He honestly has enough cash to buy whatever he wants but only wants to spend between the $30-$40k driveaway mark. The less the better of course but does want to get the most he can for the money in terms of equipment, finish, and a good drive.

rj, hadn't even thought of them even though one of my other brothers has a Civic.

It would be at least as competent as any in the class.

I almost hate to say it, but they're some nice rims on those.

Yeah a friend of mine just bought a new civic sport. Nice little thing.. Dash is a little weird... but it goes quite well and the standard rims look pretty sweet.

Base model is has poor suspension and the engine is harsh. Also, no chance you'll get a Golf Sportline under $35k in Sydney - try $38k min - Comfortline yes but they handle shit - like the base jetta. Further, the Citroen C4 would have to be one of the most over rated pieces of french crap I've every driven, especially next to a Focus or Mazda 3. Which are both pretty decent for the money but I'd agree with one early poster about the mazda 6 - there's some bargain ex Mazda cars around still which would definitely be worth a look. Same for Maxx Sport Mazda 3s which are the best value of the 3 range even though they "just" have the 2l engine. Another one is the ugly Impreza RS with leather and extras for $26k+ORC at the moment. If you can get over the looks, there's value there as well but the Liberty is much nicer to look at and drive - good resale too.
What about the Volvo C30? Not to everyones tastes but I've seen 2 at dealers that look pretty sweet with decent wheels and the tupperware.

Golf 2L Sportline can be had for $32K +ORC. very doable for under $35K on road. A friend got a new GTI for 40K driveaway so a Sportline will come in under $35K.

2.0L liberty is gutless, .... I have one. When it was in for service last month they gave me a 2.5L liberty courtesy car ... still gutless,... very minimal in performance I felt

Is it the new 118Kw 2L or the older 92+kw version? Auto or manual?

First thing I thought of too, but didn't realise that there was the possibility of stretching to the cost of a 2.5 Liberty. If I were shopping in the Liberty zone, I think I'd also be considering Mazda6, Accord Euro, Jetta, Passat. I'd also maybe consider the Focus Zetec; even though I'm not 100% convinced, everything I've read has said you really don't get a lot more engine with the 2.3 over the 2.0 & yet you actually lose some of the zinginess. And so long as you don't feed it 91-ULP for 6 months, IMOA's Zetec is a relatively nice beastie considering that it'd be a few grand cheaper'n an SP23.
If I were leasing, during the warranty period only & with a guaranteed buy-back, I'd be sniffing around the 3dr Megane 225 ...

                      [Or an SP23 ...]
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Has the Focus XR5 been mentioned yet? Aside from the boring power delivery, they do go quite hard and feel fairly composed in the twisty stuff. Also they get Recaro seats and such standard.

Well... West End Mazda are supposedly discounting its Mazda3 range. $27K + ORC for a SP23.

Subaru are spruking the Liberty 2.0R with factory fit SatNav for $32K.

                          Its Sales galory everywhere

Is that West End at Parramatta? Where did you see that price? Because thats where we will be going to anyway. If so, provided the SP23 is available I'd say its a sure bet he will buy one at that price.

West End Mazda Parramatta and Blacktown. So try both.
Perhaps ring up today and check with both dealers. In fact ring a few dealers.
