Actually, I was told by someone recently that they'd prefer a Focus Zetec with XR5 power, rather than an XR5.Originally posted by peter_vod69Has the Focus XR5 been mentioned yet? Aside from the boring power delivery, they do go quite hard and feel fairly composed in the twisty stuff. Also they get Recaro seats and such standard.
Apparently you feel the extra weight in the XR5, and the Zetec responds to the wheel noticeably better as a result.
Having said that, I'm not gonna badmouth the SP23 'cos Mazda have given it a bit of a once-over since the few people I know compared the Focus & Mazda3 and put the Focus ahead in terms of road-feel & general performance.Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Well we are going car hunting tomorrow with a view to buying something. Will report back with what we ended up buying.
See if you can get a drive of the new Golf GT (not GTI). Interesting comparison with the other warm hathces

Well he bought a car. Not one he was originally looking at. He got a Honda Accord Euro Limited Edition 6spd manual in Graphite for $36500 driveaway with 1 years free servicing and 1 years comprehensive insurance (via Honda Aus), and mats (woohoo). Trivetts at Parramatta were having a huge sale. Nice car. Wouldn't mind one myself. All subject to a test drive on Tuesday because all the cars were parked in like sardines.

Loves it. He has now done 6000km in it and loves both the way it drives and the quality of the car. I drove it a short amount just after he got it. Didn't really get a chance to get a idea of it but it felt good in that short time.
I'd definitely consider one if I was looking in that price bracket. Very nice car.
