well that's twisting it somewhat ,drawing a long bow they call that Im not saying that at all. What i'm saying is the Fiesta is a class smaller than the cars the op originally mentioned ,and will also be $5k dearer to boot. now if he is gunna spend $30k he may as well spend $35k and buy a real performance car. the options open significantly but even spending $30k it really gets away from his original plan ,therefore ditch the fiesta idea all together 'cos there will be no discounts and it will a $30k proposition and get a runout Zetec focus or similar .Better bang for the buck and more to his original mindset.

But using the $25k-becomes-$30k argument ... what performance car are you buying for a $30k list-price?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

          Is there anything?

About the only value for money hot hatch out there is the overlooked Astra SRi Turbo coupe. They can be got on the road for low $30Ks.
Great value for money at those sort of prices.

            $30k -becomes -$35k on road ?

off topic for the OP ,.In the hatches for $35k will get you sniffing *really* close to an 06 plated Mazda3 MPS base model with some haggling -i'm talking on road . Probably the king of all the hatches out there ,ballistic performance .Destroy an Fiesta in every way possible, cannot compare & it's bigger ,safer and fully featured and much better looking imo - and a real performance car.I have a quote in my desk for a brand new sport model 06 Aurora blue (the sport is the luxo model with xenons, bose, leather etc) 39950 driveaway. The base model retails for $3.5k less .There would be some decent haggle on a VXR astra too ,dont seem to be moving much either but i havent tried .I only mentioned hatches as they're relevant and in my experience, but other hi-po cars at around the money i've seen - runout SS ute 6ltr/6spd is possible in that region too.The Ford dealers are always listening to *any* offer too on their local Falcon range. these are all new if your prepared to take a demo even better .

So suddenly 25k becomes 30 becomes almost 40k driveaway? Fuck me..... the guy wants a Fiesta or Jazz...... not a fucking V8 Ute, or a luxury turbo mazda 3........ there's a reason for people wanting opinions on the cars they are considering, because it SUITS their NEEDS. Not everyone NEEDS a fucking turbo hatch or V8 Ute with the higher insurance, bigger petrol bills, higher servicing costs etc..... even if it's *only* $15k more than he wants to spend..... FFS people.

that time of the month as *very* clearly said it was an off topic post a question was asked and answered - i have personally already suggested the OP stick to a hard limit under $25k,as did others a page ago .Maybe try reading the thread rather than skimming 1 post next time :knock:

ironhorse - I wasn't meaning to single you out, but the whole point of a bloke wanting a 25k car seems to be lost on a whole shitload of people who seem to think that increasing budgets by 5-10-15k is a reality......

We get 25->30, then argument goes to 30-35k, and then suddenly we're looking at 40k onroad vehicles......

It's the same logic that people said to me when I bought a Polo Gti.
"Why don't you spend $13000 more and get a Golf Gti. It's a better car."
                    Well duh..

So in essense. The cars roughly in the price range are:

                    Suzuki Swift Sport
                    Polo Gti
                    Fiesta XR4
                    Colt Ralliart

I've seen 03 Civic Type R's are now available for import, on the road for 25K to 30K on the road. Obviously a few years old and pushing the budget and there are other issues like insurance, but personally I reckon it would be worth a stretch and putting up with a slightly older car. I reckon the resale on these will be quite high as well cos they will be highly desired by all the Honda boys and there won't be many around.

It's the same engine as the dc5R right? So mechanicals shouldn't be too difficult.

Why buy an economy car that's attempting to be a sports car, but failing, and is hellishly overpriced?

Buy a Tiida or something <$20k and pocket the cash you've saved. Depends if you want space too. Jazz & Tiida are very roomy inside despite their small size. Fiesta, Swift and Polo are TINY!!

The other way to look at it is why pay for the extra acreage of a Tiida when you don't need the extra acreage (unless you're a fat bastard or are carrying Nonna around in the back) and it's dull as dishwater.

If you were to get the XR4, do you go for the stripes or not?

On one level, it's got stripes so you look like a bit of a wanker, but if there was any car which could get away with stripes, that would be it....
