I've always wanted to play around with a V6 Vn and develop it on a shoe string. Sorta like that Street Commodores one. Cheap as chips, should run 13's for beer money
I own a two and a half litre Commodore

You'd end up spending 500% of the car's worth on mods.

Makes spending that $ on beer an attractive proposition

If you recall that street commodores project it took a hell of a lot of work to get it running 13s. Though it went ok when it finally got the turbo. From a bang for buck perspective I just can't see it making sense, especially when you can just dump a 1JZ or even an RB25 in it and run decent times for nix.

From the factory I believe the manual V6's were capable of about 15.4. EB manuals were about the same. For auto, the V6's were about 15.6 and the Fords were about 16.2 or something.

The 3 speed CFI EA's could do a mid 17 second quarter with ease lol

My VN SS, 5 speed ran a 14.4 at Willowbank with an exhuast, TB and cold air. Had about 190,000km on the engine at the time too.

I'm pretty sure the VN's just had a really short accelerator cable so you put put down 1/5 of throttle and be almost flooring it. Very similar to lots of small cars, makes them feel bloody fast without really being very fast.

I thought you were cool until you said that :p

Unless you put in an AU motor, cam, diff gears and manual :D

The 4 litre is about the same size as a RB20 in length and width, probably height too but I haven't measured, so it should fit no worries.

I'd consider the same with EF but they are a bit down on torque

VP V6 Road registered around QR in 60 on the Sprint track, and 63 on the Clubman circuit. Time slips to prove it. fairly modified but

I read somewhere that the post vns had revised mapping to drop the throttle response because people were lighting up the rears too easily.

The other thing that makes them 'feel' quick is the first gear ratio - it's like 3.something vs 2.45ish for most 3 speed autos. once in second and third they are more sedate.

Don't the later V6s have a plastic bellmouth restrictor thingy around the throttle body to ease them up a bit? I recall all the SC kiddies pulling them out and dropping single spinners everywhere.

The Series 2 VP has/had a plastic restrictor between the elbow at the back and the plenum measuring about 40 x 80mm on an otherwise fairly large opening that does in fact flow quite well without it. I've tried shortening and have now completely removed it and polished the internals of the elbow and noticed a good increase in mid range torque and top end power. Havn't had it on a dyno for an exact figure, but aparrently you can't notice 'seat of the pants' anything less than about 5kw so it must be more than that.

Also, every model EFI commodore has several calibrations for various reasons from poor idle to excessive fuel consumption up to VR at least and there's only minor differences between the lot. I've got the Kalmaker (modified Delco '808) software running mine and have had a good look at them all trying to figure out WTF Holden was thinking and yes, there's heaps of potential within the tuning and modification of the engines if you know what you're looking at. I'm still learning and in the next two months will be making a custom inlet manifold with the goal of between 15-40RWHP gain.

It's no that much different to the old 308's in design and operation, but with the advantage of EFI. Which is, I suppose, why I like them so much.

                                O8ESE:
                                Kerb Weight:
                                Commodore Executive: 1310kg
                                Commodore Berlina: 1367kg
                                Holden Calais: 1391kg

The street commodores car didn't have that much done to it AFAIK. Easily duplicable for FA me thinks. Reground cam, V8 Tb, exhaust, gearing and lose a few kilos should get it done.
