I think I read the Evo 2L makes more torque and lower than the 2.5L sti.

Preference between these cars is normally decided from the heart. Go and drive both, seriously both are great cars.... I'm going to bet you have a favorite out of the two already??

Only thing I hated on my evo is the daily driving in it... sitting in traffic for 1.5 hours a day, it made me hate the car haha, I often forgot it was even fast.

When out of traffic it'll destroy most cars and licenses very quickly. You never feel like you're hitting the limit on the street. Also, it's not that rewarding on the track (unless you just want to go fast). It's like the new WRX these days, everyone in I.T gets one That doesn't make them a bad car, however there's starting to be an image that gets associated with owning one, which sucks as fuck they are awesome... I miss mine sometimes, haha. Just be aware you'll be losing your license if you like to push the car......

have had a 1/2 hr test drive a evo ix and loved it, missus drove it and said to many fasts for her liking(scared herself stupid), i ended up buying a normal MY06 WRX due to cost and apparently being a more "sensible car" as you can't fit a towbar to the evo or fold the rear seats.

compared to a normal wrx the evo is lightyears ahead in terms of handling. engine i didnt find that sluggish off boost but certainly comes on with a kick, found myself short shifting a lot around town.

have also watched the topgear episode with a comparo between the 2 (may have been the evo8 MR and the MY05 sti, cant remember) but the evo looked much more composed and the presenters said it handled better, times showed it. take both for a drive out of the city and see how you go.

I havent read a magazine review where the Evo didnt come out ontop of the WRX. Evo for sure.

I went to the city and back in the XT this week and that was painful in the Melb traffic. If I lived in the city I would have an auto run about, my left leg was dead from clutching.

Clive - I will be looking to spend mid $40's, so both will be right in my price range when I am ready.

Being in the country it is not too bad, traffic is very light and there is some very good roads near by to go for a fang on. The body roll of the XT just does not do it for me anymore.

The wifey will be fine with it, she loved the old WRX and fanging that about. She has slowed down when driving since having a kid.

I know I will have to drive back to back to get a true feel for both. I would love an 8 MR, but my leasing company does not do imports anymore. So I am split between the two at the moment.

i have seen 06 Sti going for mid 40s already. There was a burnt orange one that got traded in recently and the guy was happy to take 500 above trade in which was 45K

Ive driven both and ended up getting a lib Gt cause i am an old fag but what scared me off Mitsubishi was the thought of having to get it serviced at mistu where they do magnas and 380s all day.

For service id rather have docklands where your sti is a dime a dozen

The other bonus with subi is so many 2nd hand good bits courtesy of forums like rexnet - with an evo9 you will prob have to buy all mods brand new.

Just drop the Forester and that'll solve the body roll. There should be some STi Forester suspensions floating about somewhere you can adopt on your car.

Turning circle, don't bother. The diffs make tight turns very painful. Even with the centre diff full open my cars feels like it falling apart with low speed full steering lock turns out of car parks, u-turns etc.

Towbar, yeah you can definitely fit one to an STi, one of the reasons I picked it over the EVO9, the WRX rear seats don't fold eaither (do they on the 06? don't think they do), only the hatch does.

hmmmm good thing i bought a hatch then

apparently the evo has a completely different floorpan than the standard lancer hence no towbar. plus i dont think they were realy intended for towing.

an evo is what every WRX wants to be.

very true, probably one of the closest things to being a poor mans supercar, as in decent amount of go standard and pin point handling. + lack of creature comforts.

i found my standard wrx hatch was a compromise between the evo and what my other half wanted.

also the fact that when we were test driving the evo had two people try and race in the space of 30 mins.

wrx appears to attract less attention.

Depends how soft you have gotten Sean ;o)

Your old wrx wasnt exactly soft or easy on the ears in slow traffic.

Sean, it's been said. It's not a daily driver, but then again who cares if you don't mind. I'd say buy one and have your fun mate .

I was back in Japan for business trip, thus my absence the last few weeks. Spoke to my tuner while I was there, I asked "so what's new these days, I don't see too many GT-Rs, Supra, etc around?" He said "the scene is dead!...there hasn't been any new performance cars on the market, people are getting bored...popular now are small cars, people movers and Euros...heck even I'll be trading up the 86 for a new 3-series wagon".

I ask again "so what would be fun?", he said "you want my suggestion...buy another Evo! It's still popular, cheap on parts, cheap to tune, good performer". Why do I need 2 Evos???

Aren't WRX STi's popular? He said "remember xxx-san who tuned at Bozz Speed, then moved over to xxx as head tuner (shop name withheld as they haven't openly/offically announced their closing down) he is leaving because owners are selling up due to poor business or the very least pulling their STi out of the national racing comp. xxx-san is moving over to Subaru engine development. Also the new Impreza isn't impressing people much he said
