The reason the scene has died of is because of the hard ass laws.. Give your car a squirt here or their and you loose your license and potentially end up in the newspaper and getting your car impounded.
The IT boom for "unskilled" tech monkeys has died (or moved to India). Anyone with skills is in the market at good rates.

Yeah i've been wondering what it is.... every performance car is so much cheaper these days, and I rarely see modified cars around... in Sydney anyway.
also what have the stricter noise and modifications laws done?

Mate it's the same in Melbourne! Was just having this conversation with a mate the other day, and just noticing how you hardly see any real performance cars around on the street anymore!
I was going to elaborate why the scene is dead or slowed down over there but one could easily guess the other reasons. I am sure we talk about this before, we may well be entering a new automotive generation of driving cleaner and safer cars.
Or perhaps our generation is simply pasted it's time, and govts along with automakers see the younger generation set into stylish, safer and cleaner cars.
Though one things for sure, I am growing towards something more luxurious, comfortable and practical for my next car.
Evo - how dare you speak such blasphemy! There will always be hoons and performance enthusiasts! Ever since the first car was produced, people have been trying to make them faster and able to do a bigger skid!

Itsnot, not having a car to drive the last 2+years is starting to make me slow down and lose interest .
Josh, if they'd let us disable the traction control and drive manually, it'd be interesting to see the TGV Vs Shinkansen .
I am getting a luxobarge because there aren't bloody enough cup holders in the Evo! My tuner recommended a LS430 with Tom's blower, he has only ever seen one and reckons it's a good bit of kit.
I've spoken to pretty much every recruiter in town and I've not seen any infrastructure jobs for more than $1000/day.
While this is getting off-topic, $1200/day is what we pay *after* the agency put's its markup on the labour, I guess it depends on how greedy they are. Even at that rate you have to weed them out.

I have seen some permanant jobs circa $140K package go unfilled for months. Good skilled staff are hard to find. I had one guy leave our team doing basic BA type work from $700/day up to $850/day. This is fucken top money for 38 hours per week.
MZ - are you talking the charge rate from the agency? Or what he actually gets paid? Two completely different things and it skews the vision of the market somewhat.
FWIW, NSW Government IT contracts are good for long term proposition (as in they keep renewing your contract), and the margins are capped on them so there is no ripping off by the agency (agencies have to tender to be on the list of approved suppliers and agree to certain rates). PMs are getting around $650-800/day (pretax) with more senior roles pushing up to $1000/day. Java guys are around 60-80/hr depending on the skills needed. Hell, simple helpdesk monkeys can make an easy 20-25/hr for L1 support!
Byron - drop me a PM if you're looking for work and I'll see what I can do (if you haven't already used my company).
As an IT Person who has been looking over the last few months it does seem that the IT "boom" is over. There is still decent work available and if you are in the areas mentioned above there are still some fantastic opportunities/ money available. I am on the Infrastructure side and seemed to struggle and sort of moved away from that area and into more of a client management role. I would still like to return to that area as i enjoyed it but it didn't seem to me that there was an excess amounts of work available.
