Gotta love an A series. First produced in the early 50s, it was still in the last 1990s Minis. Got to be 96Hp from the a factory turbo 1275cc from the 30ish Hp 848cc versions.

Mine is 102Hp 1380cc (73.5mm bore 1275), enough to cause grief to the strange flywheel/clutch arrangement where the clutch plate sits inside the flywheel and drives a bushed gear on the crank down to the gearbox input (in the sump) via a drop gear. SC drop gears FTW.

Why do you always get some emotional attachment to the first motor you pulled apart? That's the real reason the dude in the tech thread wants to mod a starfire.

'76 1380 Clubman (I really should fix it)
'86 AE82 Twin Cam (cunts trashed it, gone to the wrecker)
'85 JD Camira rally car (I trashed it, now its a Lanos)

I did a bad boy A series for a sprite years ago - still don't know why.
Was 1340cc, hepolite pistons, cooper s valves, big port job, forced induction cam, 8.5:1 comp.
Had a jap blower strapped on & an intercooler & haltech injection.
          Billet alloy pulleys, ditto flywheel.
          16psi boost - 180hp.
Went into a sprite - fucking dangerous thing.

Is that yours Lurch? What is the rear main story?

There are a few different crossflow/16v heads around for them, one (the Elder design) made in Sydney. The KAD one looks the sex. A BMW bike head can be made to fit.

Lots of dudes have spent a lot of $ on these, its always interesting to see just how far one design can go if the rules require a particular block.

ok, i may just be a retard, but on the off chance im not im going to ask if im rght about this.

do the two intakes feed cylinders 1,2 and 3,4 off a common port?

and similar story with cylinders 2,3 with the central exhaust port?

cos if so people from the olden days are waaaaaay far out crazy.

Yeah man, Long Centre Branch extractors for life!

I used to know what all the cosworth cam grinds were, and I wore out all of vizrds books. Ahh, life was simpler back then

TK, I agree, except in the case of these things. If it ain't broke, it'll fuck up later on :p

0ui0ui0ui0ui0ui0ui, yep. Cutting edge engineering in 1940. Shame they were still making them up until about 1990.

I resent that. I'm not a damn frenchie. Freedom Fries FTW.

Well yeah, i spose the intake will be even enough, but the exhaust on cyl 2,3 would be fairly compromised. Bet the gingerbeers were happy just to have more than 1 ex. port for each 2 cylinders.

Actually in Australia they're called chips.

Maybe Denise can confirm whether French Fries as such actually originated in Belgium and sold at the roadside as I was told at school?
I reckon being free just scares some people shitless
