How much Should it cost? (General Repair Q)

    Hiya,

Moved to the other side of town and so begins the arduous task of finding a new mechanic that's trustworthy.

The CV joints on my Suzuki Baleno were buggered, so I took it to a local guy who replaced the shafts on each side with newies, for $220 ea.

Knowing next to nothing about how much these things should cost, I now come to the brain trust for enlightenment.

Please tell me the guy is ok... I noticed he drives a Daihatsu YRV so he's not setting off any immediate dodgy-mechanic sterotype alarms.

why not just ring your local suzuki dealer and ask them how much for the job? If its more than they say then you got ripped off

For what its worth I always found the Pedders exchange shafts to be very good lasted much better than standard for the slight extra outlay

yeah, for what it's worth I got new driveshafts for my FWD Pintara a few years back for around $130-135 each. If the $220 was including labour then you certainly didn't get ripped off.

$220 sounds good. I replaced the whole shafts in the Swift a couple of months ago and it was $88 each for the shafts and I fitted em myself.

The CV's were pooched, wasn't just the boots.

Thanks for the replies guys, sounds like the guy is pretty reliable.
