Pfft! I remember having an arguement with a guy from NSW over the value of my Personal Number plates. I said they were were worth $X he said that was a rip off........What he didn't understand is when you buy plates in QLD you own them forever and never have to pay ongoing fees to have them on your car.

Whats more rego and CTP insurance on my car comes to a total of about $580pa.....NSW is a rip job.

MAA is updated very infrequently... Best bet is to call the insurer's direct.

And it's not like NSW has more land-area-per-citizen it needs to pay for; and the NSW RTA gets a whole lot more Random Road Usage Tax than Queensland.
Mind you, the rego on my cars was only $50 more than you paid.

What he didn't understand is when you buy plates in QLD you own them forever and never have to pay ongoing fees to have them on your car.
Ahh ... the RTA used to have a variety of different plates, some you paid up-front, and some you paid yearly. They changed everything a couple of years ago, and everything is now yearly.
The pricing scale made sense back when prisoners carved the plates by hand from the very zinc-plated steel & a special-order cost more to process, but everything's made to order these days so it's a full-on cash-grab. Which I guess I'd rather be charged for than Random Road Usage; at least it's my choice to have wanker plates, whereas it's not really a valid choice to drive dangerously just because a camera might be nearby.

However, I have been quoted cheaper CTP over-the-phone than on the MTAA website.
Not what Ive experienced, when I got the CBR600rr insured/registered, I called up QBE, the price they gave me on full comp wouldnt change at all, but I was quoted 2 different prices on greenslip, "if you have full comp it will cost you $380, if you dont, its $600+" they didnt say anything about it making full comp cheaper or crediting me money that I could of paid for full comp.

I go with NRMA for CTP anyway, because they give you the lower around $400 price if you say you have full comprehensive insurance, and that doesnt even have to be with them. (this is through the website mind you).

It's been there for a few years, it moved there before I turned 30 & I'm 36 now.

Stop complaining, VIC rego+ctp is included together, and is way cheaper than I ever remember it being in NSW.

it was the latter, they give it cheaper if only with QBE.

NRMA will give it cheaper to you if you have full comp with anyone though, doesnt have to be with them, hence why I keep using them for CTP. no full comp with anyone at all, the price goes up around by $200.

                        Definitely not kidding.
Different insurance companies have different calcs, but with the NRMA there's was straight-line encheapening between 17 & 25, after that it does get a bit cheaper for sure but it doesn't get to it's full on "not a kid" rate until age 30.
Everyone uses that magic age of 30 (AFAIK), but how much it's cheaper than a 25yo probably differs depending on the insurance company.
SA's cheaper than NSW in general though, if that helps.

AAMI is always the cheapest for me, my green slip is about 335 this year.

I turned 25 on saturday and as of a half hour or so ago, shannons was happy to take my money, and I don't think they would have last week :p

and with AAMI iirc it is anyone "over 24" where they tend not to have to pay an age excess (well, on the ctp on the foulcan, and on the comprehensive, there was a std excess and a bunch of age/sex based other excesses payable, that stopped at 24)

Just remember to factor in Vehicle age, Location(metro/country) and whether you have comprehensive insurance when calculating nsw ctp prices.

Its a fairly competitive market these days and you are unlikely to save more with private use sedan/hatch/stationwagon or similar vehicles. Utes/trucks and panel vans are usually more.
