    What makes a GT3 a cup car?

I may be demonstrating my ignorance here, but I'd like to know what defines a cup-car from a modified GT3?

Is there a set of specifications required to class your GT3 as a cup-car?

What's the difference between say a class 3E modified GT3 and a cup car?

    Cheers!

GT3 cup cars are built by Porsche [at Weissach]
The body shells are sent straight to Weissach from the factory.

They differ quite a lot from the Stuttgart build road going GT3's
    Integrated roll cage.
    Air jacks
    different suspension
    different steering rack
    different instruments
    cf doors, bonnet, engine cover
    etc etc etc

All cup cars are identical specification.
....only suspension tuning permitted by race teams

The "cup cars" refer specifically to cars that were built to compete in the Carerra Cup series that is run around the world. They're all left hand drive and built for racing only. There are quite a number of changes to the road cars including the cage, bigger brakes, different intake, windows, wing, hubs, suspension etc.

Edit: Q beat me to it.

Also the sequential 6 speed vs the h pattern and the ecu.

Arent the cupcars body shells based on the RS/turbo body too (as opposed to the standard gt3 shell)?

base difference is that a GT3 is a roadable almost daily driver

a cup car is track only so it'll also miss out on a bunch of taxes

You can buy 997's from Porsche Aus but they are only eligible for Carrera Cup or state sports car championships. If you buy overseas you can race it anywhere I believe. There are 997's on My105 for sale. Ash Samadi has his up I think.

Buy Rusty French's 997 CC and you can race it wherever you want. He didn't buy it from Porsche Aust and isn't under the standard CC contract.
