The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.
as an example, an elephant pushes over a tree to eat the fresh leaves at the top, but a human isnt allowed to build a machine that makes a car so he can drive around to places quicker?
Dear. God. Get the MX5. And this is coming from someone who was a committee member of an MG club for 3 years.
Actually, i would have to say the F is making a resurgence of late. All the oler folk who are right up on (or passed) retirement age have been buying the bloody things. Be wary, they have head gasket issues from what I understand (something to do with the head studs going through the engine all the way to the bottom of the block, theya are like 18" long)
Not to mention you will look like you are having a mid (late?) life crisis.
Can you come up with any more cash? A $10K MX5 while fun, will hardly be fast. Perhaps you plan to do some mods down the track? (no pun intended )

Just on this issue, are any of the MX5's in the Qld race series still registered cars, or are they all race-only imports trailered to the track?
If you took out a fairly standard NA 1.8 MX5 (say with mild engine mods, new shocks & springs) are you going to have anyone to race, or do you need a high-perf NA engine to get a guernsey?

Cal's is road rego'd and there is nothing on it that would really fail inspection really (and isn't removable). That said you wouldn't keep up with an exhaust and shocks and springs.

Ok looking at Natsoft results for last MX5 top gear event, most MX5's are doing fastest laps of 60 to 62 seconds on sprint track, with a few slower cars doing 63 to 67 seconds. I'd guess a 1.8 MX5 with mild mods & semi-slicks would do 63'ish. So you'd probably only get to play with a few similarly slow guys unless you spend the $$$. Correct?
There are a couple of guys that run 1600's in fairly standard trim (ie #55, #36 & #160)http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...08/2007.QR1.R3. It is worth noting that is a pretty small field for us. We got 29 cars at the V8 Supercar support races in July. An NA8 1800 with coilovers, a rollcage, exhaust, intake and most importantly semis should do 1.03 - 1.04. Money could probably be streached a little yeah. What did you have in mind?Mods would come down the track somewhere. Where's the best place to be looking for mx5's? Carsales? Trading post?
I swear i saw your car cal maybe about a month ago on the centenary highway. There was an mx5 on the back of a truck and a blue one following it.
I think before i got into the race series i would be looking at doing some on the wed/sat sprint sessions to learn how to drive the car and see if can actually drive good enough around corners without hurting myself. I'm thinking about an mx5 more and more now.....just have to keep the guys from work trying to convince me a 4x4 is the way to go.
It's all fun and games until someone loses their virginity.
