The 185 is a bit of an orphan in the looks department; 205 looks better, and 165 looks better. For the 185 Toyota were still aiming at the best quality they could produce, whereas the 205 feels really cheap & nasty & noisy (although this is for the n/a FWD versions ... maybe the GT4's are a different matter, built to a different standard? They 205 GT4's were a crapload more exxy).
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
I agree, but I can't afford that. I'll have a bike in the coming weeks so I'll take my time and find a nice one that I don't have to babysit constantly. If anyone has one they are looking at passing on or knows someone with one in decent condition please PM me. Other than that, you guys have been awesome, thanks heaps

Wait, this post doesn't read "NO way in hell am I buying one of those heaps of shit" - I am confused.
as far as quality and feel goes, the 215's are well built, and nowhere near as old..... not locally delivered, but a shitload more space
same gearbox as 185, more power than 205...
I would get an S14 or an early WRX for the money. Both I suspect would have cheaper and more available parts, and are more reliable and quicker. A GSR Lancer would be good too, a few friends have had them and have had no issues.
The only real reason you'd pick the GT4 I guess is to be a bit different.

That's exactly it. I didn't want a skyline or a silvia or a commonwhore or "boy racer" car. I want something that will just blend into the background, be nice and comfortable and reasonably quick when I'm feeling particularly immature.
I realize that individuality pays a price, if that price is slightly higher maintenance costs then that's ok by me. Depending on HOW much higher.
