Ive had both early and late firing orders on the same exhaust setup, they dont sound that different. Late model order depends if its a HO or non HO 5.0, and/or if it has an aftermarket cam.

I dont mind LS1's but they look a bit out of place in a cobra IMO.

If i remember correctly, the Bristol motor from the original AC Ace was a 2 litre inline six derived from a BMW design from 1957 to 1961.
Therefore you could quite legitimately go for an S85 5 litre V10 or the N53 3 litre I6 twin turbo if you wanted to at least stay with OEM equipment.Sparta, Rome, The Knights of Europe, the Samurai. They worship strength, because it is strength that makes all other values possible.

Sure are. I'm looking seriously at ordering one of the FFR Type 65 Coupe kits when I get settled in Canada, have somewhere to work, and have found a suitable rusted out 1987-1993 Mustang donor vehicle.
The Canadian spec kits are a bit different due to Canadian regulations that require use of some suspension and brake components from the donor vehicle to make the kit legal, but the FFR kits appear to be the goods, and they have the Canadian regulations and import process sorted out.James

Yep there's a mob that still make the original gauges. Had a look at a set the other day and definitely getting some. They're actually better than the new crap people put in most kit cars anyway.Originally posted by tineira View PostThere is a cobra replica from South Africa that seems to be the best replica. They also build the M400 for Noble. They are sold as www.superformance.com in USA, and they have a very big parts section (http://www.superformance.com/parts.aspx). Anyways you MUST buy this speedometer if you are building a cobra replica :D

A 20b cobra did cross my mind. It's a ford engine after all. The problem is that I'd want a 'D' series motor with the revised e-shaft which are rare as buggery.
Bernie a 26b has to pass 2007 emissions here. It's only an idle HC test though and plenty of people get bike engines through. So you'd think a 700HP quad PP running a high idle and only firing on two rotors might scrape through, while still providing enough power to pass the punt around the carpark test. But it still costs 4-5 times as much as an LS1. Resale would either be very good or very crap. Pretty small market there - not many people like us!
Stupid cost also kills the VK56 idea. Until a few more people crash them at least. I couldnt find one for sale when I had a look.
As for sound, yeah the fords sound a shitload better. But pay an extra $6k for a nicer noise and less power?? Anyway, keeping a ford engine for 'originality's' sake is madness. Might as well stick to leaf springs, metal panels and crossplys.
Still having said that if a 400HP alloy head windsor pops up for a decent price with gearbox I'm keen.

Funny you say that. There's an E46 M3 motor + gearbox + ecu up for grabs for 2k at the moment....Originally posted by Kaiser View PostIf i remember correctly, the Bristol motor from the original AC Ace was a 2 litre inline six derived from a BMW design from 1957 to 1961.

You know that you can get a hardtop for the Cobras? Some of them look pretty damn convincing.Originally posted by JamesB View PostSure are. Yeah seen them. It is poland. They've teamed up with a local mob who make the chassis. The kits are very 'original' but they're stupidly expensive. I'm not after trophys, just a car thats as much fun on the road as it is on the track.Originally posted by edo View PostThere is a company in Poland (i think, or something just as obscure) that produces new hand beaten alloy bodied ones (just like the original) with a chassis just like the original (not very good). They are authorised by shelby as a run on model. They are really quite a lot of money.

Aah. Now I understand. I've never really been all that enamoured with convertibles anyhow, so the idea of getting a Cobra and then putting a hardtop on it has never been something that's crossed my mind.Originally posted by fdrx7 View PostEr that would be people that live in countries where it rains all the time i guess. they sell quite a few anyway.James
