people also forget that.. even if you need to use twice as much alloy, it only weighs less than 1/3rd that of iron, so you are still ahead..

heads are a different story tho...

      Fucking hell folks.

If you put anything other than a ford motor in one of these you are a fag (although I suppose if you were going to do ultra-modern suspension a VK56 would be ok).

So you are definitively saying that BMW make crap engines?

          Hell yeah.
Build a GT40 and be done with it. Much better thing anyway.

Of course not although come to think of it a modern BMW engine would be all right providing you did the whole modern thing and didn't try to pass it off as a replica.

The whole idea of using a chev engine though is just wrong :p

I'd love to build a GT40 kit, but every one I've seen was just a little beyond my means. A FFR Daytona Coupe is something I can afford, and their design and paperwork expertise gets around any of the legal problems I may have getting the thing on the road in Canada.

Well Bill...my mates RF GT40 is now a pretty good thing...but I cant get in it with a helmet on. Absolutely no chance of driving it with a lid on.

Given that you are a good 6-7 inches taller than me you have no chance

Does the roof have a helmet bubble?

I'm currently searching the FFR forums trying to get information on the headroom in the Daytona Coupe. While I'm not quite as tall as Bill, I am 6'4", so a lot of cars can be a tight squeeze.

Edit: From the FFR Forum "the coupe is 37" from floor to ceiling and 43" from seatback to brake pedal".

No it doesnt...Gurney bubble is what its called.

That only reallys adds an inch or so & that might just make it uncomfortable for me to drive rather than impossible.

Stick a bubble in big enough for Bill & his whole head would be in it.

how much power can be gotten from a ford small block with an open chequebook?

                          (tk?)

anyone know how much power trick manswetto made before they went bb?
T&M - around 900hp, I think, but willing to be corrected.

                          Open chequebook?
NA - for an engine that'll do more than a few passes down the 1/4 between teardowns I'd think 650-700hp could be done with reasonable reliability & longevity (note, my 'reasonable longevity' may not compare to how long others think a motor should last).
FI - however much you can punch through a Dart/Motorsport ally race block before it splits in 1/2.

Re how much power have a look here http://www.302w.com/engine_database/..._database.aspx

Some of the numbers are a bit BS, but for the most part theyre good. Plenty of guys from turbomustangs.com have posted in there.

On a stock late model 302 block, 600rwhp is the dangerzone before the block starts giving way from what I've seen on turbomustangs.com, may be detonation related though.

Early block, 351, mexican block or aftermarket will hold considerably more.
