My friend lost his NSW licence. He got himself a QLD licence thinking he would be home free. Until he got a letter from the RTA (NSW) saying that his QLD licence was invalid in NSW until his NSW suspension was over! Effectively he was unlicenced within the NSW borders.

So, they do talk to each other and the outcome is not what you would expect.

ive had licenses from nsw, vic, qld and nt. i was about to lose my qld license and rang mvr nt pretending id just moved there and could she check my license to see if was ok, as id had a fewspeeding fines. came back all clear and 2 days later i was on a plane to darwin. you didnt use to need proof of address up there (unless for heavy veh) but things might have changed now.
nt does have a points system now as well however i dont believe it is linked to the other states.
afaik nsw/qld/vic are now linked. cant speak for the other states though.
i currently have a mint qld license but am considering changing it to wa.
      Nope

Nah thats exactly the outcome you would expect. I think its just not ALL states talk to each other. Obviously the QLD/NSW thing won't work.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

So he's allowed to drive in QLD?

Not licence, but QLD motor registry are idiots.

I had my Supra registered in QLD to an ACT address for a while, no issues. They even sent me a renewal but since I was getting it engineered I couldn't be fucked driving to QLD to pass the engineers so just transferred to ACT :p

why not just actually see out your suspension, rather than think of ways to stay on the road being an idiot?

Just got a new ACT licence today (don't ask) and on the form was a complete declaration covering just about every permutation of losing, having suspended, having potentially once been booked fined or stood up in court....

Interestingly though - if for example an individual was booked in QLD by the highway patrol for doing a speed above that what the officer thought safe and he wrote out the licence number wrong but all the details right and the said inidividual paid the fine by mailing in their copy of the ticket (as required) with the cashola they woud get in the mail a pleasant letter from the QLD RTA asking them to provide a licence number to deduct the points from.. If no details were provided the points would not be deducted however the individual would get a 3 month disqualification from driving in QLD with NO OTHER PENALTY. Of course becuase the ticket had the "correct" (if illegible) details on it and the individual accepted responsibility and paid the fine they may not (thanks to Australia Post) have not gotten the letter and may not be aware of their suspension in a state they don't live in....And as such would not be omiting info on any forms they fill out...

The above perhaps could be handy to keep in mind if you're running fast for the border out in the middle of nowhere....

NT has demerit points now, except our system is backwards you start on zero and work your way up to twelve.
Don't believe everything you hear about NT licences though, there is a pretty stringent set of rules to get an NT licence like any other state. There are large amounts of people who try to pull crap to get theres changed from interstate, then get the shits when they realise it isn't as easy as they thought.
                    Why?

x2. you sound like a right fruit cake and you should cop the punishment rather than being sneaky for your 'right' to drive. Unless you need a car to drive to rehab, deal with the consequences.

On the topic, I find it rather stupid that the whole system is not standardised?? You'd think it would all be one by now.

My cousin who lost his license is on very good terms with the local police here, the cops love to get him for what ever they can. He has been pulled over many of times whilst driving on a QLD license in NSW. And nothing has been done, and his NSW license suspension still has a couple of years to go.

On the RTA website I am 100% sure that it says that the other states share information on points/ licence suspensions. When I lost my licence for a year I was trying to see if I could get from another state, that put me off. I cant find it now (because RTA website is fucked to navigate) but I am 100% sure I saw it there. Of course, you can always slip through the gaps I suppose.
