MX6/626/Probe's are all crap and I speak from experience

    Comment

Well my budget is 12k BUT I spent $7k on buying the car had to be in decent nick nice paint etc and this was 4 years ago. I could pick one up for about $3-4k and spend another 5k or less boosting it and getting some decent coilovers and tyres. So 9k and it will run 13's and it will handle well. Im not sure if it will be better then the mx5 though, I doubt it. Yer they are "gay", but they are quick and popular for a reason with racers ay Cal. Could you get a mx5 to run 13's for 10k including cost of car? with aussie rego coz cars without rego cost too little. An mx5 will beat mx6 around corners for sure. Stock on stock, or even with a little money thrown at either.

It is a hairdressers car, wont doubt it. But with my front mount nicely visible from under the number plate I think itmakes it look alot more mean .

Hoonboy, until you have driven a boosted KL, you have no experiance on mx6/626/probe . It is a whole different car power wise. Ive driven an 626 though, and it did handle like a boat(just regular driving). My car sits nicer on the ground around corners.

How much extra fuel would a tyre cost in real $ terms over a year? $50??

Not worth the effort of taking it our and then when you need it its gone and you have get yourself towed + repaired or retrive your spare from some random and probably incovient location.

Would be lucky to see $50 even. To me it is the effort of putting it back in. There is little point in me having a smaller, uni directional tyre with no tread in the boot in my car taking up space and weight when i can just call a mate to bring on of his. I didnt mention my mate is a mechanic, so has plenty of shit at his house/garage if anything goes wrong. Most of the time, he calls me to go to his place and bring it to him when his Mazda Mx6 (1st gen F2t turbo) breaks down coz his car is a shit box.

A turbo and set of springs/shocks is not going to fix the reasons why they are a crap car. It will just make it faster in a straight line and have less body roll.

Wait this thread is about spare tyres? I thought it was about MX6's and Capri's! :p

But when I am pulling away further and further from a $30k S15 or R34GTT, im satisified enough in my driving and car. At the same time when i get smashed by a CRX, I know I have room to improve.
                  Sure, ill step up.
$11k including the purchase price of the car.

                  1:13 around Wakefield Park.

Went a damn sight better than my 626 Turbo at 14psi. Which only made a 1:24 at Wakefield.

My IPRA car comes in at about $12k all up.

Will happily do 1:27-1:28s around Mallala while my $ for race meets and practice days holds out.

The Corolla was my daily driver for 3 whole years, and saw numerable track days in that time. All that needed replacing in that time was: oil and filter, fan belts, and a silicone joiner.
The AE86 was my daily for about 6 months in Melbourne, before i succumbed to the call of IPRA.

P.s. my 626 went nicely in a straight line, but that was about it. More body roll than the Titanic. Infact my stock engined Cressida did a 1:22 around Wakefield on the way back from Sydney two years ago.
P.p.s. To be on topic the Corolla had a spare tyre AND a sub

Depends, I would put shocks in mine...if you chose not to have any rebound damping then yes it would bounce.

If you bought a very shit early Australian car, then yes. However, it would not do all the other stuff I'd want it to do. For $15K you could make it a 1/2 decent thing. If you started with a registerable Jap import, you could do it a bit cheaper.

Edit: I wrote that and then remembered I own this and if I sold it, it's probably worth about $15K: http://www.performanceforums.com/for...percharged+mx5

Nice corollas . My mx6 is not a stock turbo car. I have the v6 model, that I turbocharged. Much more powerful(with the boost) and better handling(stock on stock) then the older model.

Im yet to hit the track in my car so I cant compare.

Down the line, when i was NA I was much faster then my cousins 20valve silvertop in a 1986 rolla though my other cousins sportivo corrolla gave me a good run. Now that im boosted I can feel my car and it gives much more kick then any Rb25det ive ridden in. I dont street race anymore after losing my licence.
