Asteroid that is kinda what I was hinting at as well. There are more older rollas driving around then older Falcons.

      what should i look at?
here's what i'm looking at around the 3k mark

smaller: nissan micra (love these things), toyota corolla, dihatsu charade
larger: VN-VS commodore sedan/wagon (wouldn't touch a falcon but they can be had for cheaper), older subaru wagon/ute
4x4: suzuki sierra (do some 4x4 as well as daily driving duties)

can't really help you out with cars around the $6k mark. that's double my budget you rich cunt!

The problem with the Charade is they are getting old and fragile. Plus parts are getting interesting to find, Toyota can go jam themselves with the prices they charge.

Commodore isn't a bad choice. Problem is most seem to be pretty loose by now. Magnas are cheap as hell and most seem to be much better then similar price Falcons and Commodores. Plus 3.5 manuals haul arse. You will find TE 2.4s in your budget, heck you could find TJ 3.5s for $6K.

I got a VP V6 off the parentals when the S15 went bye bye. Chucked it on LPG and im laughing now :D Full tank of gas for $40. It's like when I first started driving years ago

It's the Vacationer so it got cruise control, tacho and power front windows (rear passengers have to wind their own windows).

and parts are cheap as shit and available from every corner store.

The old man had put new suspension in it and tinted the windows (so I can deal with the shame of driving a VP) before I bought it and its got VT SS wheels on it now.

390kms if i drive like a dickhead, 420km if i cruise around like a senior citizen (its still got Dad's RSL sticker on the back window so cops dont hassle me ahahah)

edit: so yeah about 16.5L per 100km at worst.

also it only cost $400 to put it on LPG because K-Rudd paid the other $2000.

but now theyre looking to chop the rebate, so get in quick.

Well that is cheaper then a Corrolla, and you get to drive a car with balls, that is roomy etc.

Where does it say/did you you here they were going to scrap the rebate?

Cunts. Suppose it depends on where the money is going etc etc, but with all major govt cuts, we see no result from it and everyone just forgets and gets over it. Spose this has already been brought up in another thread. Ill stop sooking.

Now the factory is closed I'm sure you could get a 380 cheap?

I'd say Corolla, but I'm biased... although apart from the $1500 immobiliser replacement, I have to say the Puslar in my signature does us good for a comfortable daily hack.

yeah the V6 is a grunty, if raucous bugger. All the fun is over by 3500rpm, whereas you needed at least that many rpms in the S15 before it started haulin'

the fan belt pulley wheel bearing is on its way out so it "whistles" under acceleration... had a swede pull up next to me at the lights and ask "issit turbo, mate/"

the lpg installation subsidy being rumoured to be axed was in the papers on the weekend.

oh and it threw a chunk out of the harmonic balancer a few weeks back, so check to see if the original one has been replaced if you down the commodore route. I got a new one from Repco for $165.

I'd buy the newest, best condtion car that fits the budget.
