err - normal atmospheric pressure is about 1 bar
so if turbo is making 6psi that is on top of the natural 1 bar
so yeah about 20psi absolute

not sure how that help you to understand how turbo's work tho..

Yeah its actually closer to 21psi (14.7 psi) was just thinking off the top of my head was the 20 psi.

I have never really looked in to turbo's just the NA side of it.

I see where he is coming from - in the intake system while the engine is running the pressure in a NA car is always negative compare to atmspheric - if it wasn't air wouldn't flow.

Theoretically you could have a turbo making 0psi boost through the system I.e just bringing the negative pressure up to atmospheric and still getting some power benefit out of it.

In some old cars they had a vacuum gauge that showed this negative pressure throughout the inlet (usually marketed as an economy meter) If you could use a turbo to decrease the amount of vacuum then effectively you would be increasing the airflow to the engine and getting a power increase.

14psi is roughly atmospheric pressure , so 8 psi boost is 8 psi over normal atmo pressure , not 14+8.

But most of it your right.. natural atmo sucks air in , so there is a slight vacuum ( air is lazy ) in the manifold on the intake stroke.
