So you could buy a faster SS commodore for 11k?
No but the dude who spent $40k on his $10k V6 could have bought a $50k SS.

yes but people don't see the futility of a project at the start

it's only when they come to sell and they tabulate their bills and it's like 1/4 of what they spent

$11k for this or say $16k for a stock SS???

      that's a hard one

        I'm on both sides here...

I have a Gemini for that reason... I wanted to have something different. I have built the car up using various parts and fabricated alot aswell. there is no other like mine.

        BUT

That being said, I do agree that with current model cars you'd have to be an idiot to spend massive $$$ on a base model when you could ultimately spend the same on a higher model....
following on from that is other factors like insurance, maintenance, reliability the list goes on...

much easier to just buy an SS/Clubsport and be done with it...

this car would be an awesome bargain for the next owner though.

I dont see this thing as a bargain, I see a whole pile of potential problems.

Individuality is good, but I always question those who do something the hard way just because it's different. Different <> better.
Why is it the hard way? Just as hard to turbo the V8 as the V6. And it is using very similar to a SS as a base for the project - asides from a pathetic attempt at trim differences etc, its the same taxi.

You need to open your box and do some research then.
I've heard plenty of V8s and am yet to find one I didn't like the sound of. Every car with a six that I've been in has always had that "Falcon taxi" quality to their exhaust note. (Not that I've ridden in that many good sixes, but I thought it would be good to join in with the sweeping generalisations).

All sound hotter then a thong clapping LS1 last time I checked.

Not for me, I'd go the SS.

Not that I'm much of a knuckledragger, but a stock SS is bound to be way more reliable than a second hand heavily modified performance car.

And possibly use less fuel. And probably just as much fun.

Then again, I could just be getting old.

For the original $111k, bargain of the century.

                Alex.

what is a 'thong clapping LS1'

i admit early VTs sounded like nothing special down low but burbled a bit up top

It's the hard way because you're starting with an inferior base engine. Whatever you can do to the V6 you can do to the V8, but it's probably been done before to the V8 and you will almost certainly end up with a better result because you started with a better base.

I could do that, but I think I'll just stick with my view that the pushrod Holden V6 is a great engine for pottering around the suburbs with, sounds like shit, is inherently unbalanced, and inferior to any LSx engine when used as the basis for a performance car.

                    RB series
                    JZ series
Of these three I've only been in RB-powered cars. All had the same "melodic" drone as every Falcon taxi I've ever been in. I will admit that some sixes can sound nice when you get up them, but most of the time it's drone city on part throttle.

But, in a most un-PF sort of a way, I will gladly stand corrected and tell you all about it if the day comes that I get into a six that I like the sound of.

(BTW, I don't hate the Falcon or its engine per se, just Falcon taxis).

And this is exactly why your opinion means nothing.

look at it this way... how much is a clean stock VX Exec auto worth?

                          $8k?

does it look like he's added $3k of value to it?

But are we argueing that "ohh shit he lost alot of money on a project and if it was a SS he wouldnt of lost that money???". And if he spent the 40k (assuming he did, that sounds like a lot) on a SS would it of been a better investment?
