cat back for a bit of noise, pod filter, suspension/ sway and strut bars, wheels and decent rubber.
you'll never be a Traffic Light GP winner so may as well make it fun thru the roundabouts.

Put a cat back on it so you can hear it, and then do suspension mods as previously suggested. If you really wanted to go leftfield, is there a "short" shifter available to speed up shifts and make it "feel" faster?

im sure you could find a bolt on turbo kit somewhere

maybe think about swaping the engine out for the one out of the GTI, surely theres some smashed up GTI's around?

i like the 206, i reckon its cool

Theres a guy in Belgium that does really nice turbo kits.

Trying to get 20-30kw out of NA one is a tough call. We got a GTi up to 129kw at the wheels NA but that was with quads/cams, etc. The cylinder head needs a lot of work to go further.

Interestingly, the WRC car used the earlier XU series engine as the EW engine in the 206 was considered too hard to do.

For the money you'll spend on trying to squeeze more power out of it you could sell the thing and buy a GTi.

              Just do the suspension.

I'd do intake/exhaust so you can drive around enjoying the sound of the thing, better wheels/rubber, maybe suspension if you're that way inclined, drive it like that for a few years and then think about upgrading to another car.

Worked for me with my first car, anyway.

I agree with the sell it and get a GTi comment. I learnt this the hard way. You can spend a lot of money on cars and get 1% improvement.

If you're stuck with your car how about doing an engine swap? Try to find a GTi engine and install it in your car.

                      Hey mate

Personally I recommend that you save every penny you've got, look into some investments and think a little bit more 'long term'. You've scored a free car and should take advantage of it to get yourself set up really nicely... do it right and five years down the track you can buy prettymuch any car you want.

That said, if you want to ignore that advice then my second lot of advice is that your money, if you must waste it on your car, would be best spent on suspension/brakes/tyres and/or a few driver training days.

A really good quality set of tyres, performance brake pads, good brake fluid, and braided brake lines are the most cost-effective upgrades you can make to prettymuch any car. Next step is suspension work but it all really has to be done as a 'package' for the best results so you need to budget at least a grand as a starting point... while you can start fiddling with brakes etc for a few hundred bucks here and there.

I have a 2004 Peugeot 206 xt, the 5dr bog stock boring version. Yes, i am a P plater, in perth, with stuff all money. Being a P plater, i want more power. And yes, as a P plater i know next to nothing about getting more power out of said car, other than exhaust, chip, and extractors.

Found this site on google, thought it would be one of the better places to ask such stupid questions, without copping too much shit for it.

And yes, I realize im stupid for wanting performance out of such a car, I'm not looking for 12sec 1/4mile, just a bit more power on a budget, and no im not going to buy a different car, parents bought me this one (stupidly) and i do rather like it.

                      cheers

Leave the suspension pugs standard suspension is better than most aftermarket stuff (my brother had one, put the standard nonlowered non full sik springs back in it and it handled better), put good brake pads in it and good brake fluid. Put good tyres on it and if it runs 14 inch rims or has say over a 50 profile tyre maybe find a set of light wheels in a +1 inch size (whilst not ultimately making the car faster reducing the sidewall and stopping the tyre falling over makes a car feel better).

Don't fuck with the motor or anything. Do you really want to find out how much a new gearbox and/or motor from Peugeot is?

All these "it's so slow" people are just being snobs, ignore them.

Seriously though, you really won't be getting a huge increase in power by spending less than a thousand or two. The exhaust system will get you an increase you can feel because you're used to your car, but it's a small enough increase that people who weren't used to your car could probably drive it before & after and they'd only notice a difference in the sound it makes. Most intake mods just make the car sound nicer, and don't increase performance at all.

The AussieFrogs forum that was referenced above will give you pointers on what you can do; but there really isn't such a thing as cheap performance (unless a car's factory turbocharged ).
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Spend your money learning to drive it fast - go down to AHG, do some driver development days, get into some sprints.

Or bring it out on the dirt for even more fun
