While V8 conversions into the later mac strut front Volvos are common, the wishbone ones (544/12x/14x/16x) seem to be a lot narrower in the lower area of the engine bay. I don't know if it would work out well to be honest.
The 2.9l twin turbo DOHC six from the S80T6 would be cool...I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

Going by gianttomato's link, I think the 122 may be a little bit light (just over 1000kg) to legally put anything bigger than about 3litres capacity into, in NSW at least. But a 2.5litre turbo engine is ok, which means the Rover 3.5 alloy V8 is no-go but a 1JZGTE is ok????
VQ30 would most likely be the 'sensible' swap.
