remind me again how many extra Plasma's were sold when the baby bonus came in??
i don't see how these two are related.. one is introducing a higher tax and the other is giving away free money ....

and it looks like they are doing something about the baby bonus (means testing).

yeah it is bullshit, but thats probably a case of higher volume of sales rather than taxes.

re. deadshits getting stuff for free.. they are tightening the criteria for the baby bonus! i.e. giving away less.

i agree that people who work hard and do things smart need to be rewarded

            yep. fucking typical isn't it.

last time the LCT went up, it was under Keating.

            Don't blame me.

I think Merc have shown that they can do better.

They dropped the top C class from $165,000+ (the C55) to $140,000 (C63). I still think they (and the other luxury car manufacturers) can do a lot better here still in dropping the price - but how low do you go before the brand gets tarnished if it gets too cheap relative to the mainstream manufacturers.

my point being that they are trying to discourage spending, yet at the same time giving out money that is being spent.

I strongly disagree with means testing payments like that too, if you're going to have a socialist government, then payments like that need to go to everyone or no-one, otherwise you end up with an artificial threshold.
(I also disagree with encouraging poor dumb people to breed, but that's a seperate argument..)

When the baby bonus means testing is announced in the budget I reckon it is going to be inconsequential for 99%+ of people. It will be on like $180K+ family incomes or something - i.e. those who really don't need it.

I like the idea of taxing consumption more than I like taxing income.. hitting people when they spend rather than when they earn is more likely to encourage saving and investment and discourage overspending. Stuff like the LCT does that (and brings in some tidy tax revenue as well of course).

p.s. I didnt vote for Rudd

isn't taxing of consumption what the GST was supposed to do?......

What I think is funny, is that $57,000 is considered a luxury car.

                        Dont blame me either.

I hate comparing US prices , its a headfuck .The fact is Australian car market is a cash cow for import manufacturers . Last time i looked a new V8 M3 coupe is about 55k or something , which is about 60k australian dollars . The fact an M3 sells for one hundred and sixty k here cant be blamed on LCT .
LCT is a bullshit tax in any case however .

$57,000 gets you a VW golf... Maybe a fast car, but far from luxury

have no issues on taxing LCTG on anything over say 70k

SS Commodore or a calais when spec'd are in the 57,000 range

Rudd needs to go, sooner rather than later, and he can take Bligh with him

and we can have laurence running QLD, and Mal Turnbull running the country, we would be back on track in no time,. til then... im looking for a new country to become a citizen of
