Rudd needs to go, sooner rather than later, and he can take Bligh with him

and we can have laurence running QLD, and Mal Turnbull running the country, we would be back on track in no time,. til then... im looking for a new country to become a citizen of
Lol, you're leaving b/c of an increase of 8% in the LCT? Yeah, this country is fucked compared to the utopia of anywhere else.:ugh2:

I can honestly say that I voted Liberal, and if you ask Fi I predicted that these arsewipes would put up taxes and fuck the place up generally.

How does luxury tax affect business purchases? We use landcruiser troopy's and I'm sure they're more than $57k new!

Tax on luxury cars fair: Swan

        May 11, 2008 - 9:58AM

Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan says an increase in tax on luxury cars is fair because people who buy them can afford it.

The tax increase - from 25 per cent to 33 per cent - to be introduced in Mr Swan's first budget on Tuesday, will affect cars priced over $57,000 - estimated to be about 105,000 car sales per year.

Mr Swan said the budget was a big savings exercise after the unsustainable spending of the previous government.

"We don't think it is unreasonable for people who have done well in recent years from government decisions in terms of top-end tax cuts, just pay a little more for a luxury car," Mr Swan told the Nine Network.

"What we are dealing with here is about 10 per cent of cars, most of them are imported."

He said, for example, the tax would add about $2,600 to the price of an S-type Jaguar.

Opposition treasury spokesman Malcolm Turnbull said the new taw will force all car prices up and feed into inflation.

"It adds to the cost of one part of the motor vehicle universe and inevitably the price of other vehicles will move up, because that will give them a bit of headroom,'' Mr Turnbull told ABC TV.

"So all cars in Australia will be more expensive as a result of this - bear that in mind.

"And that feeds into inflation because if you put the price of anything up it feeds into the price of CPI (consumer price index).''

Mr Turnbull, a self-made millionaire, accused the government of playing the politics of envy.

In other pre-Budget announcements, the Government yesterday said it would double the income trigger point at which the Medicare levy surcharge kicks in for singles - from $50,000 to $100,000 - and has rejected claims the move will put added pressure on the public health sector and insurance premiums.

Sorry, can you explain exactly what Labor have done in 6 months that has undone all Jonny's good work?

For the record, I voted Liberal (Turnbull), but the amount of crap some of you guys try to level at the Labor Govt. is laughable

nice throw away comment, great input.

Have you not noticed the string of rate rises & strong inflationary pressures in the last 18 months - 2 years. The last round of tax cuts costello delivered (which were in preparation for an election) he was warned against but of course him being the smug prick that he is went ahead them regardless.

I cannot believe the hype & sky falling in bullshit getting banded around here due to westie drinks going up and a small rise in a luxury car tax which will impact about 1 - 2 people who have posted in this thread.

Premix taxes, will kill premix drinks, go look in your local bottleshop, see how many premix drinks are left on the shelf on a friday or saturday night.

                          Kyoto protocol.

And Luxury car tax, taking money from people that work for it just because they can?

                            1. Premixes. Oh no. That really has messed us up hasnt it. If they are left on the shelf, then great. Less pissed up teenies - this is a good thing.
                            2. Kyoto. So we've signed up. What have been the terrible consequences for us so far?
                            3. LCT. This will add $2.5k to a $100k car. If you can afford 100k for a car, that extra $2.5k will not be a massive deal. If however you dream about $100k cars, then they are just that little bit further away.

Have these 3 things undone 13 years of Coalition policy? Are we in that much of a worse state that we were 6 months ago?

I'm quite anti labor (unions actually) but I'd have to agree here. It's not exactly the end of the world, yet.
