Yeah that logic seems bullet proof - just imagine, if only they had some way of taxing goods and services people consume...

I get the feeling that 'over-achievers' are going to get bent over wrt the revisions they will make to the tax system.

      2. Kyoto. So we've signed up. What have been the terrible consequences for us so far?
      3. LCT. This will add $2.5k to a $100k car. If you can afford 100k for a car, that extra $2.5k will not be a massive deal. If however you dream about $100k cars, then they are just that little bit further away.

Have these 3 things undone 13 years of Coalition policy? Are we in that much of a worse state that we were 6 months ago?

      1. Go look at the shelfs with goonbags, beer and bottles of spirits, much more will be gone than usual.Nearly everybody that used to drink premixes but has gone off them due to the tax increase will swap drinks, rather than stop drinking.

      2. Kyoto, the price of reducing carbon emisions will become more clear in the next year or 2, think petrol costing way more, and inflation going up.

      3. Just because somebody works hard for their 100k means you should take 2.5k from them? since when is this fair.

I'm not bitching because it affects me, im pissed because K-Dudd thinks he can tax people well off, and give cash out to people that do jack shit all day.

The GST is not a particularly good vehicle for taxing the wealthy on consumption since everyone pays it.. LCT isn't too bad (its a start at least)

how is it hard to understand that the lower and most of the middle class dont spend $57,000+ on a car and won't cop the LCT?

here's an amazing theory I have... people who earn more, spend more, and hence pay more GST.... who'd have thought. (and that's on top of the extra tax they pay)

I think the real point is that $57k is not a luxury car the way the original legislation provided, ie back then, a fancy falcon was $35k - not $55k. Sadly though, with 10 years of 2-3% compounded inflation which should have been applied to the luxo tax limit, it really should be around $77k today by my quick Future Value calcs. Now $77k is definitely a luxo car.

That means if they were to raise the percentage by whatthefuckever, it might actually hit luxo cars, and not guys like me, whose specced up XR8 hit $58k - like it did 4 years ago. And I know it might be hard to believe, but in NSW where the registered road fleet is getting younger by the day, the percentage of cars in that price range would be above the 10% as claimed by the greedy fucking goverment - you can tell that by just driving though Sydney on a sunday.

Like someone asked, are commercial vehicles exempt? You're flat out getting a Landcruiser ute for less than the 'Luxury Vehicle' cutoff. And everyone knows how luxurious 'Cruiser utes are...

The tax on 'alcopop' drinks is a joke (the reason probably more so than the actual tax).

HOw the fuck is a couple of hundred dollar increase on a $60k car going to stop inflation? Obviously they've figured out they can't meet all their promises and have to raise more money.

And yeah, don't blame me, I didn't vote for those cunts. I'm not saying the Howard government was doing a perfect job by any stretch of the definition, but I can't stand Labor gumbyments. Had enough of Beattie/Bligh in Queensland long ago. Arrogant bastards.

Please provide evidence to support this, considering its a given that petrol prices will continue to rise regardless.

the poor person pays the same amount as the rich cunt when they buy their bread and milk. GST = bad.

I voted for labor and im glad i did. All ive heard so far is continual sky is falling bullshit propaganda with no substance behind it.

The tax on the premix's WAS BRINGING IT INTO LINE WITH WHAT IT SHOULD BE, FIXING HOWARDS FUCKUP. So shut the fuck up about it already you whinging cunts.

I agree the LCT should follow inflation, neither or the partys have done this correctly. But upping it is fine, its a tax on spending.

Never had I heard so much selfish whinging, but i should have expected that from liberals.

milk and bread are exempt from GST.

thats why every baker i know drives a lambo or porsche.

most people dont need a car >57k, so id say its a luxury.

I don't really have an issue with the LCT, but I think it should start higher than $57K, maybe $80K or so. Swan is contradicting himself this weekend - on private health insurance he criticised the libs for not raising the thresholds with inflation, and upped them to $100K for singles from $50K, then on the other hand he increases the LCT, but has the $57K value, instead of considering inflation over the past few years and raising that limit accordingly.

I'd also like to know what he plans to do with all the extra tax dollars, given the budget is likely to have a big surplus, and he can't spend the surplus by cutting tax etc, because that would be inflationary, and he doesn't want to increase inflation!

And lets not forget they also have the money to pay Accountants and Lawyers to reduce the tax they are supposed to pay.
