rj_astra: that mid-range is insane... cheers for the new pricing too.. i might go that route instead and just take my time.

Is there any reason people don't service these themselves and get raped $200+ for an oil change? Is the oil filter hard to get to, expensive?

The midrange is very addictive. It makes overtaking a doddle.

I would assume servicing yourself would make any warranty claims harder. Not sure. BUt any 3rd party mechanic should be able to do the oil/filter changes. And its only once a year/15000km anyway.

The 20V 1.8L engine has been around for 14+yrs. So all the issues should be sorted with it. The Polo has the latest (last?) iteration of it. If I am not mistaken it has the K03S turbo.

5 services in 13000km?? Did I read that right?

Saw a few of these at a dyno day a couple of months back, with the APR reflash they make some nice power. Bit small IMHO, did you try the kid seat in it while you had it?

In any case, if they don't come up with anything I've at least had a good drive of the car and can sell mine privately and come back with cash for a new GTI instead (which would give me more leverage in the first place).
I'd almost bet money that you'll have to sell your car privately. PS why are you stepping down/sideways to the Polo from the Falcon?

Yeah, small, but overall pretty well packaged. Seat fits but its a squeeze.. ok for the 2 or 3 times we'll ever use it probably.

Yeah I've come to that conclusion. Got someone coming to look at the coon this weekend and have just put it in the paper starting this weekend.

Decided I dont really need a big car and something small but fun would be in order. We've got a magna wagon for family duties. The XR is using ~15L/100km too at now > $1.90/L BP Ultiimate.

The Pogo is a good, solid little performer. More along the lines of unfussed open road performance compared to some of it's rivals. I would look at one myself except 2 young kids in car seats and pram means it's too small.
Oh, try and avoid Guy Harding for as long a possible. He's the APR importer and once you meet him, especially see/drive his pogo, you're wallet will forever be open to the car.

Again I can definately testify that we are very happy with the tweaked Polo GTI - fuel consumption was pretty much unchanged also with the APR power up. I am guessing the increse in tourqe means we don't have to push it as hard in A to B day to day driving.

We don't have kids, and the Polo gets used more as a second car as I have a Jetta company car so that saves PULP etc expenses / racking up the k's for the Polo where ever we can. But with this being said, the Polo is way big enough for the two of us and others in the back from time to time.

Oh and I agree with the post above - Harding Performance is where ours has had stuff done and I have an increasing wish list as a result... with this being said the APR power up and a bit of suspension work at a minimum is a must IMO.

I have one on chattel mortgage through my business and use it mainly for driving to and from work.

The other comments are right in that it's not particularly exciting, but will have a good tilt at a twisty road, and is quiet and reasonably economical. The dealers I went through will actually do the Oettinger reflash for about $1500, and it's covered under a full VW warranty (mine's extended to 6 years for some scheme they had). They should come down to driveaway pricing at the RRP of $27k, too.

Great option, considering a fully optioned Mazda 2 or even a base model Civic comes close to that (seriously). I tried almost everything else, and nothing came near it at that price.

I had alot of problems finding the Sport contact tyres in Brisbane for my polo. I ended up getting Michelins

The one I drove was used, and I've decided to go a new one. They have a new one in black arriving in 2-3 weeks so if I can sell my XR6T fairly quickly I'll be into one soon. Had an absolute blast driving it on some windy roads, something I haven't really experienced much in bigger cars.

Got some people coming to look at the XR6T this weekend. I think I've priced it fairly keenly at $33,750 so it should go quick. BA MK II's still seem to be for sale around those dollars up here and mine is a BF MK II

I just did a run from Sydney inner west, bells line of road (blue mtns) to Bathurst and back. Chasing my mate who was on a R1200GS! Average consumption was 7.4L/100km (including all the urban driving getting out of town).

I went and test drove a 1.9TDi Caddy today, as I need a little company runaround for myself, it went really well, light and nippy, perfect for what I need, I have a VW Crafter also and can vouch for VWs overall quality.

They had a Polo GTi down there also, it comes in at about the same price as the Caddy, and was very tempting...I definately rate them, but occasionally I will need to carry a small load so my Head has to rule my heart unfortunately
