Funny thing is they feel newer to driver than the current SJ Express.
The SJ express dates from 1986! Apparently the WA was dropped because the combined sales of the Express and Starwagon barely got into double figures each month. The irony is, there are more Jap import Delicas here then AU spec vans now.

Hey Vicko...funny you should mention this.

Simon is ordering a Vito to tow the ski race boat & cart all the gear & people...I think he likes mercs now (has ordered a C63). He is going with a TD auto & says 'yeah, we can hot that up' dunno what that means exactly, but if its going to carry 6 people, all the ski gear & tow the 21 foot boat then I expect it will need lots of hump to keep Simon from going off his head.

I have actually considered a Van as a replacement for the cruiser, it would have to tow the race car...but you might save me the trouble

Vito, in black with nice wheels will do you nicely.

        Is the triton retiring?

Hehe.. I can see images of Simon's Van with smoke billowing from the fronts..

Yeah the Triton might be retiring. I'm in no real hurry, might be more towards the end of the year - we'll see how the timeline pans out. That deal I mentioned to you a while ago looks unlikely now (though I have not heard anything officially), but there are other plans afoot I have been asked to dust off the leathers to do some R&D on something..

          Will be a giggle

              Vito's RWD?

The cheaper ones are gutless... 108CDI? I was gonna buy one until I tried to get to 100 on an onramp

You'd need to do the 112 or the 115CDI to get any reasonable performance... Actually the 112 we went to Sydney with flew with 2 bikes in it

Gear lever in the dash is a prick I'd be going the auto in the Merc...

Transporter will shat all over the Merc performancewise and the transporter is a fair bit bigger than a Vito inside (the newer Vito has LWB which would be bigger) Transporters are exxy though - Again gear lever my Uncle's one (slightly older 01/02 model?) has the gear lever right where the middle passenger's leg should be sitting

              Or... what about a Sprinter?

Can fit 4* Bikes and will do 10km/ltr consistently with 4 guys + gear + 4 bikes (MWB - LWB = more space again)
Ducati 999 and 996 are under the covers in the pic
*note 4th person may not be legally seated... (on a stool in the back)

Sprinter is a bit big really.. it will be used as my runabout as well (when the missus needs the subie) - so not just carrying bikes. I dont really want something thats *cue Darryl Eastlake* - HUUUGE

I assume the RWD ones have a slightly taller floor?

So.. the only reason you'd get a RWD one would be if you think you'd need to be towing something?

                          Whats the price range?

Just the newer ones are RWD? Nothing wrong with the FWD ones IMO

You mentioned 15k (don't get much TDI van for 15k)

Thats a good idea, you get one that can tow the Capri...then I dont need a tow car. Youre tops.
