I saw an AMG Vito down at Phillip Island two weeks ago, sure looked the part with the wheels and huge AMG calipers under the wheels. The interioir looked a bit ordinary apart from the seats though. I think the Dunlop race tyre importer owns it but I am not 100% sure. It would definitely be on the must have list if the funds weren't an obstacle.

ok - the van thing is back on, but after doing a bit more research, it looks like the Hiace isn't wide enough to fit two bikes and gear and tools in.. so thats out.

I might end up getting a bit more budget to play with yet too.. Maybe a Transit then..?

That explains why Dunlops are so $$$$.

We have 2 Mercedes, 1 Vito & 1 new Sprinter for our Harley Davidson, Ducati & BMW Motorcycle Contract...

The Vito is good for the bikes, although it struggles in the way of screened bikes...

Hence why we are building the Sprinter (almost finished)

I will also add is that Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen & Renualt Light Commercial have a really professional roadside management sceme...

            Whats your Budget now?

If your looking for new or nearly new I run 2 x VW Vans (and 1 x Isuzu Truck) for my Buisness.

Heres some sizes for you for reference:

The VW Crafter (or sister van the Sprinter) is as big as you can get in a Van, it has a 4700mm load length, 1780mm max Width and 1350mm between the archs

A VW Transporter has a internal width of 1692mm and 1244mm between the arches

Mercedes Vito has 1277mm Between the arches

Hyundai ILoad Width 1620mm and 1260mm between the arches

A Hiace 6.0 Width 1545mm and 1120mm between the arches

Second hand maybe check out old Sprinters, almost identical VW LT's can be picked up cheap, or Iveco Turbo Dailys maybe

Before you freak at the sound of the word Hyundai, drive one of these! They're bloody awesome. I had turbo diesel manual one for a bike event. I drove 800km and still had a 3rd of a tank of fuel left. They're very comfortable, have tons of power, handle very well, have neat euro styling and are pretty good to drive. They're also cheaper than the others and come with a monster warranty.

The current Hiace is also available in the SLWB which is longer, taller and wider then the LWB. Apparently we have a couple in SYDA and no one likes them, it's weird when couriers don't like a Hiace. To the point we've cancelled ordering more to replace the Sprinters. Which reminds me, if you do go the second hand Sprinter route, avoid any that have solid bulkheads and no rear glass. Chances are they are ex FedEx and would be well and truly rooted, I think most are up near 200k and are usually CBD or shuttle vans.

Transit's are a good option , early ones are crappola and steer well clear but from 04 onwards they are really very good , ours bought from new only needs a clutch change every 100,000 km's due to being a big van with refrigeration running all the time and drivers who rev the shite out of them to get going . They can die a bit off the line and are very doughie until some revs are on board , also can chew brakes very very fast . Its got 300,000 on it now and still going strong .

Out SWB sprinter has been a shocker , two diesel pumps , pops out of 2nd gear ( factory fault) , diff issues all in 100,000km's .

I do not know much about the later Transits, as the earlier Transits scarred me so much I do not care to know about the later ones

Seriously early Transits are unreliable pieces of shit we had a few at work, Water pumps punching fans thru radiators, Turbo's letting go, electrical gremlins, squeaky and rattley, Looong rubbery gear shift, steering wheel at odd angle and way to thick to get non Neanderthol hands around.

                      There is so much better

Newer Trannies are alot better, but I still wouldnt own any Euro out of warranty.

I think Hiaces are overpriced for what they are, but I guess you end up making that back up when it times to fix/repair something.
Diesel in them is a atleast a generation old also, needs the T/D out of the Prado. The petrol is too gutless and thirsty with a heavy load also. Needs the 3.5L V6 It would fit, I reckon even an LS1 would fit under there.

The current Hiace has the turbo diesel out of the Hilux, intercooled on the SLWB. The 2.7 VVTi goes all right, mine (auto) pulls to about 130/140km/h without any dramas. Shame the heap of shit can't handle or stop though.
As for repair costs, Toyota rapes you as hard as the euros. One of our vans here just had $2k worth of panel work done on the nose early this year, the other one just had it's, second, tailgate sorted for not much less. Oh yeah, current Hiaces have issues with the under edge of the nose. They tend to smash the lower radiator support, A/C piping and air filter housing on steep gutters. One owner/operator courier I know busted the radiator the first week he had his.

Looking at the specs of the Hiace TD its way down on power than the other 3.0L TDs in the Hilux and Prado. Nearly 130Nm down on the Prado, so I assumed it was a previous generation of that engine.
Yeah the Petrol ones goes ok in an unloaded van, but add a ton and it struggles, even more so in a loaded Commuter where you are pushing over 3ton. (GVM is 3150kg with only 241Nm)

yeah according to the toyota website the hilux 3.0td has 120kw but the hiace 3.0td is only 80kw?????
must be an earlier version of the same motor?
                                Nope
