Hiace uses the NON intercooled TD, plus I suspect it is detuned due to heat issues. The bulkhead and floor in mine, petrol, gets pretty hot, to the point we have to put any temp sensitive freight in a tub right at the back of the van.

      from toyota site... HIace TD

2.7L VVT-i petrol engine (111kW/241Nm) or 3.0L common rail direct injection turbo diesel engine with intercooler (80kW/286Nm)

They kept the sep '07 upgrade quiet, I know the preupgrade LWB diesels are non intercooled. Hmm, no wonder the Hiace diesel is gutless. 40kw/60Nm down on the same engine in the Hilux sucks.

DON'T get a Hiace SBV. My wife's cousin had one for a few months, it was stolen a couple of weeks ago, and parts cost a bloody fortune. Apparently it needed an upper balljoint and they had to get one ordered in. A couple of couriers that still run them like the drive but not the fixing bit. One is still waiting for a new headlight after he hit a 'roo a month ago.

went for a drive in the iLoad today, they are quite powerfull for what they are. I was doing 55 and accelerated in 5th and it was quite happy to exceed the speed limit when it come on boost.

125kW and 380Nm kills the hiace. I dont mind the two door thing either, might be usefull actually as now i might buy the rear seats.

That said is there any other vans that I shoudl try? has anyone hear bad points abiout the iLoad?

ILoad with a DPChip gives you nearly 450Nm, ive noticed you can option them with a LSD so I would think that would be a good idea.

With its 5year warranty I think its hard to pass up.

Ive had sprinters and Transits for the last 7 years.I have found the transit is great, my last one was a 2002 model and did 400,000 klms with no probs. They tow great and carry heaps.I now have a 2007 LWB tdi transit and I treat it like crap and it just keeps on going. It can tow 2800kgs legally too.

In my position the van would be karting around 300kgmax every day, tools and stuff, it doesnt need to be bigger like a transit which would be more for rego too?? Every other day ill tow the trailer to max load of 1500kg. This thing can tow 2000kg braked. i thougth that was impressive, its a hay-undies.

I might chip it, if it also gives me good fuel (oops, is it diesel) km's.

Iload sound like a good thing, better than the euro stuff? VW caddy/carry?? is too small.

There must be something about those Iloads, word is we're about to trial them in diesel auto form. I know we trialed the Hiace diesel last year with very negative results.

Global policy requires all vehicles be autos. Actually, the specific requirements mean we are actually limited to what we can get. To trial the Iload means bending the requirements, as we already do with the Hiaces.

                            Woohoo - thread resurrection.

Looks like I might have to get some vannies now after all, they'll be used as sales rep vehicles loaded up with high end construction supplies (think bolts, chem anchors, drill bits etc). Soo.. It will be new/near new. Must be diesel, reliable, comfortable to spend all day in and look pro.

So what are those iLoad things like these days?

The Toll guys love them, alot are replacing their Hiaces with them.
We aborted the trial because of the GFC.
