Hiace is 6m3, Iload is 5m3. The real limitation is length. It's about 500mm-750mm shorter, big issue for us as we load via suburb and the more suburbs on the floor the easier it is. Hell, my Sprinter is about 200mm shorter on the floor then a Hiace, stupid CBD spec.

T5s are a tad more expensive to rebuild though :knock:

I remember the T4 auto issues, mainly Ambulance TDI, was caused by the sprag clutch in the torque convertor dieing and the ECU not being able to cope, thus destroyed auto. Lost count how many I changed. Finally got it sorted when we had iirc 5 or 6 in the workshop waiting for transmissions, at that time they were rebuilt, uprated slightly, by a mob in VIC, when NSW Ambulance threated legal action/dump every VW in the fleet on VGA's Botany office if they weren't sorted by the end of the week or something. VGA flew in a dozen of the special HD transmissions and ECUs from Germany. No more issues, with those vans.
The reason for them dieing? Running at(over) max weight and hard, urgent, driving. Common issue in the USA on the V6 version as well, and why I knocked back 2 T4 Caravelles when I bought the Voyager.
