Wakefield is a goat track that suits shortarse cars and gokarts. Wouldn't Eastern Creek be more man sized?

The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

Yes but if you go off at Wakefield it is unlikely you will hit anything, much nicer for the amateur driver like me... I have seen some nasty results of mistakes at Eastern Creek. It is more of a power circuit though.

i have a vy ss with a bit of dale power and i took it to eastern creek. on the track it is an absolute pile of shit. on the road stock it is a nice mix of comfort + handling but on the track it magically transforms into a giant lounge with 4 wheels.
yeah it sounds good and the straightline speeds are impressive, but the brakes on it are SO SHIT I never had the guts to really get into it. wakefield is harsher on brakes, so good luck there. I need big hsv brakes but would prefer to put money towards my rx7 whenever it arrives.
my verdict is not to buy a commodore if you want to use it for track work. I'd get a different rwd, like a rx7 or s15 or something
i guess if you buy big brakes and do all the suspension it'd help a lot but it's still a heavy non track orientated car and i doubt it'll still be anywhere near the evo's and so on.
that said the commie is lots of fun on the street and i still really like it.

You can pick up a 6spd VT SS for under 10k thesedays. Add a decent cam, exhaust and diff gears for go, 4 spot HSV AP Racing kit for 3k for stopping and spend a few bucks on some coilovers and Bilsteins. The result ?? 1.08's at Wakefield on semi's...Originally posted by edo View PostPut it this way, your modified SS that can lap wakefield as fast as Cals car wont be wanting to tow much either, plus it will cost more than a stock SS that will tow stuff & Cals 5 put together.
Stockers with decent suspension and a half decent steerer can do 10's there - have a look at the Combined Touring guys who are very very limited in what they can do to their cars...
At the end of the day though, an Evo will be faster out of the box and cheaper / easier to modify. You want to go fast, or do you want to drive the kind of car you like - the choice is yours...
Mick - I'm trying to figure out whether to keep building my IPRA spec VK or go to a late model VT - VZ. I'd be interested in coming for a look, but won't be able to on Sunday as i've got something on. Do you have a link to a calendar or something for the HSV Club or the events they attend ??Originally posted by Mick_MY02 View PostI do the supersprint series with the HSV club and you don't see that many late model commodores running. The quicker guys tend to be the ones bringing in older models on trailers that are effectively stripped out race cars.
As others have said these are big cars weighing a lot more than an EVO or STI. With my STI I've just thrown on better pads, rotors and fluids and it will pull up all day long.
To get a commodore doing serious times around a track like Wakefield costs a lot and you lose driveability. If you're not doing anything Sunday we have a supersprint at Wakefield and there are some HSV club guys enetered so you could always rock up and ask them.
Cheers,
Paul....The older i get, the better i was...

on the street the brakes are awesome on late model commies, i guess the weight gets to them on the track after a few repeated hard stops?
are you guys using fresh brake fluid and good pads when you say they are shit, or two year old brake fluid and street pads?
brake ducts might make a big difference too, if your on a budget?
