if your using new england hwy from newcastle to armidale try the thunderbolts way. the turn off is about 30km north of raymond terrace and takes u to uralla which is about 20km south of armidale, not many people use it but no fuel available at night. worse bit is the 50km of winding road from gloucester before the steep climb . it is quicker than new england hwy and its about 50km shorter too. try it!

only just found this thread, headin south wif Millsi outta dipswich on sat, 2 bikes in tow behind the ole shitta bluebird (95 fwd 2.4 $1k dunga) I figured coast be the easiest run with a trailer and bit of load. The glouster route good option, just don't know how much the car will like it. Either routes within 20-30km's distance.

I went inland on the way up, coast on the way down. Inland was more interesting to drive, had much less traffic, no cops, lots of towns to stop easily at, and was generally I reckon the better route. Sure it's longer, but it's worth it.Originally posted by BillzillaRemember - Ignorance in the true sense of the word does not equal stupidity.
Wilful ignorance does though.

I just got back, Speed limit + 10% -1 (except for where the fixed cameras are) and I managed to average 98kph going the coast road in the middle of the day (Monday, and then Thursday) from Parra to Byron Bay (Monday) and Byron Bay to Parra (Thursday)
Coast road ftw.
