The fact that Hannu Mikolas championship winning car is only worth $150k pretty much makes any claim that a road going Grp A homologation rally car will be worth something look really silly.

Im sure the Group B homologation specials will be worth a bit, but then they are worth a ton now.

you're talking about European race specials, we're talking about australian sold relatively common cars that are possibly worth something in the future.

in australia the VR4 was the first real and successful AWD turbo contender, with the TX3 hot on it's heels. Subaru was nowhere in this country until the first WRX.

Im struggling to really come up with anything that isnt a low volume special bit of gear...and already really expensive. Low volume Porsches, Ferraris etc...

Anything where subsequesnt models are better just wont do it, if the future is based on the past anyway. Only reason a XY GTHO Ph3 is worth twice what a Ph2 is is because there wasnt a phase 4. The only reason 240z (& 2 seat 260s) are worth more than their successors is because they were better. ...so that pretty much counts out WRXs, evos, M3s & even GTRs.

The last of the RX7s might get a show but I reckon they built too many, & a limited edition with different wheels & some stickers wont make it special.

Possibly the monaro might do ok...but its a tough call. Certainly nothing HSV or FPV will do any good because they release a new better one every other year. Even the W427 is unlikely because in 5 or 10 years they will release something more silly.

Everything that came after it was better...being the first means being the worst...not something that is of value.

Unless the Australian media grows some balls and the gov't brains and manufacturers can show motorsport as the fruit of their labour again, we'll never see the same autmotive nostalga like we see with the 60's and 70's stuff.

Chances are the future popular stuff will be in response to changes in taste, and maybe megacruisers like statesman/fairlane or ricer-rides like Suzuki/proton GTi's etc become nostalgically popular.

I reckon the 4WD HSV's might be alright, although there were more powerful versions, they are the rare ones.

                380's are rare aren't they???

Actually the last fairlane? Maybe? They dont do an LTD anymore either do they?

The last Statesman must be something thats coming up too...

Perhaps typical 1st cars...like older people here crap on about minis...maybe the young blokes might yearn for whatever model corollas came in GTi & SX variants...or suzuki GTis

Geez it will be a cunt trying to restore one of those in 30 years...

I'm no good at this guessing game.

Half the shit I used to not take a second look at while scrounging for bits at the wreckers is now collectible.

I think the Aussies delivered R32 GTR and Subaru 22B will be up there.

Due to the public reaction and the fact that it was the only modern day Aussie coupe the Monaro might be up there. Maybe...

Nothing else from Holden so far will probably hold up because of the reasons EDO mentioned. However I agree with others, the F6 will be held in high regard but not the cooking models. Mind you Ford might release something else with the turbo 4.0L as a last hurrah that becomes a future classic.

Stuff like the Porsche GT3 RS models may be up there too. Depends what else they release.

                            Again what do I know?

The M3 like so many cars might have grown into a better car from E30 to E92, but is it a better M3? One is a light weight simple twin can 4 and the other is a luxo cruiser/sports car with a 4L V8. The MX5 is kind of the same to a lesser degree. The NA is a more raw experience than the NC. So I guess time will tell which the market favours, but E30 M3's are already worth more than E36's.

Are E30 M3s worth more than E36s in the markets where you could actually buy both from a dealer?

                                Were E30s limited number?
